We see each other twice a year
At weddings or at parties
Your mom and I air kiss
Your dad gives me a side hug
You and I avoid each others' eyes
I laugh at your sister's jokes
I listen as your grandma lists your accomplishments
I make polite conversation with your friends
I give you a galaxy's worth of space
When you're not looking, I take the time
To notice everything about you
Whether your hair has gotten longer
Whether that watch is new
And wonder if anything else has changed
Since I last saw you naked
I can't tell if this is a sexy little game we're playing
Or if you genuinely don't remember who I am
And what we've done
I can't tell if I'm hurt or relieved
That every time we meet
Your eyes slide right over me
For now, we pass each other like strangers
And that might be the strangest thing we've ever done
