Sins of the Unholy
Chapter 8: A Captain's Love
In moments like this, Toshiro Hitsugaya feels closer to his wife than any other moment. After the tense moment on the training grounds, Toshiro brings his wife to his quarters and begins to do as he has done before.
He leads Juno to his bedroom and begins the push and pull process of getting his wife out of uniform and into something more comfortable. All her movements are sluggish and he can't help but tease and bemoan as he finally gets her dressed in a less formal hakama. The long skirt is deep blue while the long sleeved top is in a pale green with vines detailed with gold.
"Relax Juno, he's with Rangiku, she'll be back before night's end." His words are strained as she watches Juno move around the room to sit at the window seat. He looks over her pale skin as it shines with the sunlight. He watches as she reaches up and pulls her bun out. Auburn colored locs trail down her back and Toshiro comes closer.
Running his hands through her hair he watches as she tilts her head back to look up at him with sad brown eyes. They're still rimmed red from her earlier cry session and a flush sits high on her cheeks.
"Juno?"
"I'm sorry, my love. Kiseichu was so foul, it's like I can't focus. It's changed so much over the years, it's getting harder to recognize him." Cupping her face he says nothing as she continues on.
"Something is eating at us, calling to him and creeping into our inner world. What if I can't stop him? You can't let us harm anyone, please you have to stop him." Her words become more frantic as it all seems to come tumbling out. The worry etches it's way on Toshiro's face as for once he's unsure of how to calm her.
"I will let nothing come to harm you Juno." Toshiro kneels by his wife takes her hands into his. Her smaller hands are softer than his calloused ones.
"But these secrets have to stop, tonight we all must speak. We need to see what makes you so frightened. I cannot help what I do not understand." Toshiro's words are deep and she grabs his hands tight.
"I'm sorry my love."

They day rolls along almost in a haze. Juno moves around the house like a ghost, unable to sit for a few moments at a time. Toshiro stays close, choosing to stay in the room but just out of reach. She moves close but then pulls away almost afraid to touch him again.
A knock sounds and Toshiro watches as Juno turns to the front door. He doesn't move to get up, feeling that it's Rangiku just outside the door.
"Kiseichu is back." Comments Toshiro as he watches Juno move quickly to open the door and greet the Lieutenant. They talk briefly about subtle pleasantries and plans for a girls day. Toshio smirks as he stands and moves into his office. Sitting across his desk rests Hyorinmaru and he can feel the dragon roar within the inner world.
"We cannot feel Kiseichu, we cannot gain more information this way."
"We can form a connection. It's never been an issue before, it's understanding what's going on that could be an issue. Did he seem different?" Asks Toshiro as he lifts the sword up and rests it at his side.
"He was shrouded in fog, he growled at me as if I was an intruder."
"Which confirms what Juno has been saying." Toshiro walks into the hall and looks down to the living area. Juno has placed Yume no Kiseichi on the low table. His wife is nowhere to be seen.
"Juno?" He moves to lay his own Zanpaktou down before moving to look around the house.
"Juno?" He calls again as he enters the kitchen then the spare bedroom. Moving to the back door, he moves to step out and finally sees who he's been looking for.
"I haven't been like this since you'd gone off to fight in the Blood War. The world feels like it's cut off and no one around stands out. I feel no one." She stands under a drooping Japanese maple tree. The leaves are in a deep red color. She reaches out to pluck a few leaves off before turning to Toshiro.
"Let me see into that world, if what you both say is correct. SOmething may be wrong with your Zanpaktou. The fact you doubt yourself and him, it's troubling. But we will wade through this storm as we did then." Toshiro waits for his wife to come back to him, he watches as she drops the leaves and steps around the tree.
He thinks back to years ago, when they'd made this home. When he'd allowed her in and loved her. She walked the grounds taking everything in, a smile on her lips as she'd look at him with such love. The woman who stands under the mable now is broken and lost. The urge to comfort her is strong, but as the day had played out, she'd shut him out.
Memories of first touches and kiss flutter across his skin and he takes a deep breath. He will wait, he will watch but most of all he'll love her from afar if that is what she wants. He'd always wait for her, no matter the on coming doom.
