Kori Pendant
Somewhere In The Early 21st Century (Camdale, USA at 2:00 PM)
It was a sunny day on a Friday afternoon. During the third week of August in the huge city of Camdale. And with just one more week left before we entered September.
However, for Camdale Public High School (also called CPHS for short, Camdale Public High, or Camdale High), it was the end of the second week since the new school year began.
And I was in English class snoozing away at my desk...

Not that Ms. Vianna's class was boring or anything. Or that she had always been one of the many narrow-minded faculty members here in our school...
I just had trouble sleeping last night...
And was having a recurring strange dream once again... That I had since summer vacation...

"I won't leave you!"
"Korianna..."
"No! I will stay here and fight him alongside you!"
"Korianna..."
"You promise me that we'll--?"

"Korianna Pendant! Wake up this instant!" yelled my English class's upset 47-year-old teacher, Ms. Ellis Vianna.
"Huh? What?" I answered with a startle.
Most of my classmates that day responded with laughter. Ms. Vianna, though, wasn't amused in the slightest.
"If you are going to sleep, do it in bed, not in school. You should know this by now. You're in twelfth grade, correct?" inquired our now very annoyed English teacher.
I blushed red in embarrassment and hid my face in my English textbook. As the same classmates were still laughing about it unwantedly by me.

Yet that didn't surprise me in the slightest that they did.

Then, finally, the school bell rang to end the day and the second school week right then. All of my classmates had then gathered their things together into their bags to leave.
And as I was about to do the same as them. I looked at the empty seat next to me on my right.

While the seat in front of me had been empty since the beginning of the week already.
This one in particular, though--the one on my right was new as of that day...
Till they find a new student to fill it in once again.

"Remember to review pages 12 to 16 in your textbooks this weekend," Ms. Vianna instructed us as we were getting ready to leave.
The majority of the class, though, groaned in response to that.
