I do not and will not ever give permission for my fics to be copied and posted on other sites. Don't do it. Don't be that person that ruins it for me and everyone else. All Fics in this collection have been written by me and me only. The only other place they have been posted to is Tumblr.

The last few weeks had been rough on both Y/N and Elijah. After being taken by Esther, Y/N had been worried about him more than anyone else it seemed. She knew something was off from the moment they had woken him from his mother's spell. She could see it in his eyes. See it in his movement. Even in the way that Y/N could be talking to him and he'd space out in a way that concerned her.

Every time she brought it up, wanting to help in some way, any way that she could, it seemed that Elijah would end the conversation quickly, stating he'd be fine. But Y/N knew better. He hadn't been fine at all.

Y/N and Elijah had been together for the better part of the century. She'd gotten to memorize everything about him just as he had with her. They memorized the way their eyes flickered with excitement or even in anger. They knew the other's body language better than they knew their own. No matter how much Elijah tried to fight the things Esther had done to his mind, he knew he couldn't hide it from her.

He never wanted her to see the things that had played through his mind. The way he had saw Y/N running from him, trying to get away before he caught up with her. The way he had not recognized her at all before he killed her. All of that had been his fear and Esther used that against him in an attempt to offer him a different life.

But the damage had been done. His mind was a mess and Elijah felt as if he couldn't completely control it. Random moments throughout his day he would see glimpses of his past that had been kept hidden behind the red door, causing him to fight the thoughts that played with those images. He tried to keep himself put together as he always been. But there were moments it got the best of him.

His first outlash had been towards Y/N. She had been worried about him and the way he had been staring out the window at nothing in particular. Y/N had barely placed her hand on his arm, trying to get his attention after he seemed to be lost in thought. It ended up with her pinned to the ground as Elijah hovered over her, his eyes blackened and his fangs bared at her. It took a few attempts of her calling his name to get Elijah to focus on her and where he had been.

When she had finally gotten through to him, she watched as his fangs retracted, his eyes returned to beautiful brown that she could easily get lost in at any point in time. She had watched as realization washed over him before he was up off of her, quickly giving an apology before he was out the room.

It wasn't just his random outlashes he had to deal with. There was also his nightmares that happened every few nights. Y/N would feel Elijah toss and turn in his sleep beside her. He would wake Y/N up with that along with his sleep talking. Everything that had seemed to pass his lips had been him reliving things of the past. Things that Y/N had never heard him say. All she had to do was shake him gently and he would wake. Once he was, Y/N would whisper reassurance that he was safe, that they both were, and it would calm him. Tonight, however, it seemed to be worse.

Y/N had been curled into his side, her head resting on his chest as they both slept. His arm had been wrapped around her, keeping her close to him. They both seemed to be sleeping peacefully. That maybe for once, Elijah's nightmares would be kept at bay. That was until Y/N felt his body twitch.

Her hand subconsciously rubbed lazy circles on his bare chest, a new habit of comfort that she had been doing the last several nights. His arm dropped from around her as his body turned away from her. It cause Y/N to fully wake as she sat up, her heart hurting as she took him in.
