"We both know I don't have time for this." Elijah said as he turned to begin walking out of the room.
It was obvious from the moment that you walked in that Elijah had no interest in what you were up to. He had other things to worry about and an old flame wasn't exactly at the top of his priority.
"Such a shame," You said as you leaned against the armrest of the nearest couch in the room. "I've always been up for a game of cat and mouse." The words had stopped Elijah in his tracks. "I'm sure there are few rodents of yours hiding about, ready for the hunt."
You knew what you were getting yourself into the moment the words left your lips. You knew that those very words would either be your saving grace or be the death of you. Especially now since it seemed that the two of you had been on the outs with each other.
An argument turned into a separation between the two of you that lasted a handful of years. And while the two of you hadn't stopped playing this little game of yours, you two hadn't been in a serious relationship.
Call it a sense of jealousy that played through you when his attention had been set on a wolf. You were willing to play dirty if it meant his attention was back on you. Everyone knew you didn't like sharing and you had no intentions of doing so.
You watched as Elijah slowly turned towards you. His eyebrow raised ever so slightly before it returned to its resting place. A hint of a smirk tugged at his lips as he moved from his spot, making his way towards you.
With every step he took, you remained still. You never faltered under his gaze as he closed the space between the two of you. Even as he came to a stop just in front of you, you never moved. You just kept your eyes on his.
"We both know you wouldn't be so bold to cross me." He said the moment he came to a stop.
"Oh, have you forgotten that I've already done so?" You asked with a smirk pulling at your lips as you stood up straight, keeping your eyes on his. "And if I'm not mistaken, the last time I had, I wound up in your bed."
"That wouldn't happen this time." He said as he kept his attention on you.
You almost believed him. You almost believed that there wouldn't be another chance for your little game. But you knew the man before you a lot better than he believed you did.
"Says the man that has enjoyed the hunt himself a time or two. What difference does this time make?" You asked knowing that you could possibly be pushing the wrong buttons. "There wouldn't be a game if both participants weren't willing."
"Are you challenging me?" He asked, keeping his eyes on yours. "If I'm not mistaken, you even have a variety of rodents running around this city that I would be glad to dispose of."
It wasn't hard to miss the possessiveness in his voice. One that you had been too familiar with that it could easily send a shiver down your spine. And if it had been any other time, you would have given in to the man before you.
"A challenge that I would easily win." You said as a smirk slowly pulled at your lips. "Seeing as I only have one rodent to kill to earn my prize."
His hand was at your neck before you even finished the last word, pinning you against the farthest wall. "You so much as lay a hand on her, this game between the two of us will cease and it will be the cat that is hunted."
As he said the words, his hold on your neck tightened for only a minute before letting you go, causing a gasp of air to pass your lips. A glare formed on your face as you watched Elijah back away from you before walking out of the room completely.
Even with the threat, it hadn't changed your thoughts. There was a rat that needed to be taken care of and you were completely up for the challenge.
