Y/N had been sitting in the back of an Ambulance, oxygen tank sitting next to her while she held the mask to her face. There were firemen running around, rushing to put the fire out. The paramedics stood close by keeping an eye on Y/N as she watched the very place she had called home for the last several years go up in flames.
Just thinking about had made her turn red in embarrassment. She was the reason the place was up in flames at the moment. Her lack of cooking skills and sheer boredom didn't really mix well. The sweet thought of having some form of dinner on the table for when Elijah came home from work had fallen apart because of a grease fire that went out of control.
"Y/N!" Elijah's voice filled the air and Y/N wanted nothing more than for a some black hole to open up and swallow her whole. When he came to a stop in front of her, she could see the worry that filled his eyes.
"I'm fine." She said as she pulled the oxygen mask off of her face. "This is just a precaution." She said holding the mask up slightly before bringing it down to her side.
"What happened?" Elijah asked. He had been in the middle of finishing up some paperwork when he had gotten the call saying his house was on fire.
Y/N bit down on her lip for a moment. "I tried cooking." She said giving him an innocent smile.
Elijah shook his head slightly. "What is the one thing I've asked you not to do when ever you stay home alone?"
"Burn down the house." She replied as her shoulders slumped over as she looked down at her hands.
"And what did you do?" He asked as he took a seat next to her. A small smiled pulled at his lips as he asked the question.
"I made you dinner." She said looking over at him. "Though that seems kind of pointless at the moment." She said as her eyes landed on the house, the flames now out.
Elijah's eyebrow rose as he watched as she looked towards the house. That hadn't been the answer he had been looking for. He admired that she had tried. But the woman before him wasn't a good cook. Hell she could burn a microwave meal from not reading the directions correctly.
Y/N turned to look back at him. She took in the way his eyebrow was raised, as if waiting for her to admit what she had done. Sighing she leaned into him. "And I burnt the house down."
The laugh that passed Elijah's lips had caused Y/N to smile slightly. She had sounded so defeated in that moment and he couldn't help but laugh. "As long as you're safe that's all that matters."
"But I burnt the house, we have no where to live at the moment." She said looking up at him. He had been taking it a lot better than she thought he would. She had thought he would be angry with her for what happened. But there he was laughing.
He sighed softly and Y/N could see that he was thinking for a moment. "We'll just have to go stay at the lake house until we find a new place."
"That sounds lik-" The words had finally registered in Y/N's mind. "You have a lake house?!"
Elijah smiled at her reaction. "Yes, I do." He said with a nod. "But once we get there, just let me do all the cooking."
Y/N's cheeks reddened at that, but she simply nodded. She learned her lesson this time. She wasn't meant to ever cook and it was about time she accepted that.
