"So the greek gods are real, my mom is a goddess and there's a camp for people like me where I can stay but there's another place I can stay where the monsters won't hurt me but I have to choose one because there's a war going on?"
"... Basically"
"I don't wanna choose though"
We were now sitting in Dawn's room, Tanya was looking through her closet for something even slightly feminine while I was keeping guard and hoping that Dawn's dad didn't come up there.
"But-but you have to" I told her, "If you come over to camp- no one will force you to fight in the war but the other side.. Luke Castellan's side.. they're only looking for demigods to build their army"
Dawn looked over at Tanya to see what her reaction was to my accusations, but the girl only nodded and kept digging through the mound of clothes, "Well... it's true. It sucks but that's the only place for a person- for a monster like me. Atleast you have a choice- I didn't even get that"
"But.. can't Tanya come to Camp Half Blood?" Dawn's eyes, I had noticed were really light brown and turned into pure gold if she looked into a light, and those same eyes were looking at me now, almost pleading.
"I-" I was truly at a loss for words. "I dunno kid-"
"Obviously I can't. Camp Half Blood is for demigods... not monsters"
Tanya was really good at making me feel bad for her.
"Look, Dawn you're going to have to choose. Otherwise we'll soon be joined by Empousai who are less friendlier than me"
"Less friendlier? We've known each other less than an hour and you've critisised my fashion style at least twenty times"
"These other emposai won't respect Dawn's pronouns"
Dawn and I sucked in breaths and gave Tanya a disgusted look. That would be a nightmare honestly.
"Which is why we need to get moving."
Tanya turned back into a human, her pale skin getting darker before my eyes, her hair was just as I had first seen it and she was back to looking like a super model, except now there was something much more human in her eyes.
She threw Dawn a bagpack and told us to get out.
Now the plan was to go out the door, meet up with Hedge and go straight to Camp. But when do things ever go according to plan?
"You're all disgusting like him!"
"GAH"
I am never gonna stay as a guard. Ever. Frankly cause I'm terrible at staying focused and totally did not hear Dawn's trash dad sneak upstairs.
"Great warning system Violet" Tanya said sarcastically.
I have fought giants, I have fought in a way, I have fought and killed an empousai but when I tell you I almost peed my pants when I saw this guy, you know he looked terrifying.
For starters he was well over six feet tall, and Dawn seemed to inherit her height from her dad cause she was almost as tall as me already. His arms weren't overly muscly but his face was fully red now with veins that could clearly be seen on his temples and a facial expression so full of rage and disgust that it made me want to back up into a corner and cry.
I couldn't understand why I was feeling the way I was. I knew that the rage reminded me of something, and the maddened eyes looked a little too much like my mother's but I didn't know why I was having a fucking panic attack right now.
This really was no place for it. I could feel myself shutting down. I couldn't hear the voices clearly and my vision was strangely obstructed and for some reason there were tears coming from my eyes.
