POV: Keefe                                                         Word Count:  782

I knew something was up the second I entered the room but dreaded what it could be. Dad was being really stiff, and Mom looked nervous. Like really nervous. Like feeling it in the air nervous.

" Son," There it came, " Tonight we are going to a ball." They were both waiting for my response. Not that it mattered. I could've fallen into a pit, and they still would've gone.

" Oh, that sounds good, " I didn't want to go. I was going to be a room full of stuffy nobility, with capes, and jerkins, and ball gowns, talking about life.

" Splendid. When you finish dinner, go up to your room to get ready, " Dad said.

In a few minutes, I was done, put my dishes in the dishwasher, and went upstairs.

He's at the party now. Also, he's wearing a dark brown jerkin, and light brown pants.                                                                                     Enjoy the rest!

As I walked into the party room, the music seemed to get louder. Could it possibly get any louder than this? I didn't know, and I didn't want to find out.

Looking around the room, everyone was with a date, friend, or parent. I had none of the above. Did that bother me? Yes. Could I do anything about it? No. Well, yes, but my parents told me to scram when we got here, so not trying that.

Wandering around and hoping to find a friend was the closest I was going to come to being there with someone. Anyone I tried to talk to was a girl who only wanted to flirt, and I wasn't in the mood, and I felt bad leading them on. I knew I shouldn't, but it was kind of my trademark, or I think that's what humans called it.

Deciding it was enough for one day, I walked over to a corner. I'd assumed it was empty. I mean, who else would be standing in a corner at one of the biggest events in a while? I guess her. I didn't know if I should turn around now. I mean, if I walk over, she might think I'm weird for going over to talk to her, but she also looks sad and lonely over there and I want to cheer her up. What to do? What to do?

I decided to man up and go over there. Walking over there was one of the most nerve-wracking things I've done in a long time. And I did a lot of stupid things that could've ended in death.

Her eyes focused on me as she saw someone walking towards her. She shook her head like she thought it was a dream. How little did people talk to this girl? I kept walking towards her, and her eyes kept getting wider. When I was only a few feet from her, and it was clear as day, I was only there to see her, her eyes looked like gumballs.

" Hi. What's your name?" I knew I should've turned back while I still could, but it was too late.

" I-I'm Sophie. Sophie Ruewen. You?" Her eyes went back to their normal size, and God were they beautiful. A bold turquoise with gold flecks. In the sunlight, they would be even brighter. Why was I thinking about this?

" I'm Keefe. Keefe Sencen. And your eyes are really pretty." God, why. Did. I. Say. That? I should've closed my mouth. But, to my surprise, she smiled. Smiled.

" Thank you, yours are pretty too." She blushed deep red.

" Why thank you. If you don't mind me asking, why are you spending your night in the corner?" I wondered if she would be offended, but she just smiled.

" I'm gonna guess it's the same as you." She laughed.

" Didn't feel like dancing?" She's beautiful, I was surprised she didn't have a date.

" Not really, I have two left feet." She blushed, and I smirked.

" I can dance. My dad made me take lessons for years. Hated every single one, but now I don't have to worry about dancing, so something good came out of it." She smiled.

" Now I kind of wish my parents signed me up for lessons. Then I wouldn't feel so useless at parties." Her eyes looked longing. I got an idea.

" Any chance you wanna dance?" Her face lit up.

" You know I'm not very good, right?"

"I know, but I wanna dance with you." She reached for my hand, and I started toward the dance floor.

She wasn't wrong about being a bad dancer, but I thought it was cute. Every few minutes she would step on my foot and apologize. She would turn beet red, too.

That was the best night I've had in a long time.

Hi, This might not have been too good, but I've been doing a lot of reading lately, so I haven't had much time. I just started The Hunger Games. I'm loving it.

Also, I just finished the entire Divergent series, and I LOVED it. I recommend it to anyone. It's dystopian, and kind of Sci-Fi, with romance, and internal conflict, and fight scenes, and DRAMA, and Deaths, and THEY'RE FLOPPY BOOKS, SO THE SPINES DON'T BRAKE, and that makes me happy.
