Alexis felt pulled from the scene, felt warmth enter her veins. She sensed her mother’s hand on hers and was jerked back into the travelling car. Except it was no longer moving. The now stationary car had arrived at the quarry and her mother was pulling her from the vision and urging her out the car. She looked around quickly, spotted Deacon’s car near to theirs and made up her mind instantly – she felt no fear – only the need to be near him. Alexis gathered her thoughts and threw the car door open, sprinting towards the direction her heart led her in. She expected to feel drained, weak, dampened, but she felt stronger than ever. Alexis ran, faster than she had ever run, faster than she ever imagined she could and reached the clearing to witness the scene she had seen in her mind’s eye. As she ran, she shed all the cold from her body and felt the familiar heat of being near Deacon.
She rushed towards him in the distance. Her eyes set only on him, her heart hammering the nearer she got. He sensed her and turned – his eyes softening as he saw her and his breathing becoming instantly steadier. It was evident that they balanced each other out perfectly. They were two parts of a whole and just being around each other made them stronger – better. She was elated as she reached his side. He grabbed her into his strong embrace, and she breathed him in. Every part of her body reacting to the bond they shared with each other.
“Don’t ever make me worry like that again” she told him as she planted a kiss on his lips.
“Then don’t ever leave my side again” he answered and deepened the kiss as he pulled her even closer to him. Her body melded to his as he forced the kiss to take on an animalistic hunger that pulled her closer to him, her body pressed against his, their heartbeats mimicking each other’s. Alexis felt light-headed and gave in to her basest needs as he grabbed her and pulled her tightly to him.
The kiss was interrupted by an awkward and obviously fake cough. Dylan had made his way over to them as the other wolves moved slowly towards the quarry gates and their awaiting cars. The pack were taking the new recruits with them and Dylan explained how they would proceed with re-induction back into the pack and asked Deacon how to deal with Axel and Nikita. It was going to be a tough conversation and Deacon and Dylan agreed to leave it over until the morning before making hasty decisions. Nikita and Axel would be guarded and imprisoned until their fate was finally decided.
As Dylan walked away, Deacon let out a deep sigh and gave Alexis a look that promised that their kiss would be continued at another time, where there would be no further interruptions or distractions. Her body trembled in anticipation and Deacon’s eyes started to turn her favourite shade of gold and he grabbed for her again. She managed to escape his grasp and laughed at his frustrated expression.
“There will be lots of time for that Mr Packman – believe me. But for now, we must get back. There are lots of people waiting to hear that we’re okay.”
Deacon smiled down at her and took her petite hand in his and led her to where his vehicle was parked, alongside the car she and her parents had arrived it. Her parents stood waiting beside the car and he embraced the couple as they came near. Her mom, dad and Deacon greeted each other as though they were already family, and it warmed her heart to see the man she loved fit into her family so easily. Alexis looked at the people around her – her mom and dad and her new mate - and knew she had found her home. She still had so many questions she needed answered about her parents lives for the past few years, their own magic skills, and the need to move to this small town she now called home. She had so many things to learn about her new talents and gifts and how she could use them to protect those she loved. But most of all, she had a whole new life to experience, a gorgeous man to love, and hours and hours to show him just how much she wanted him all to herself.
She felt Deacon’s eyes on her and looked up, noticing his breathing had turned ragged and strained and she realised he knew exactly what she had been thinking about. They were than in tune. He winked at her and she smiled back.
This may not have been the life she would have chosen for herself, but it was everything she had never even dared to dream and more!
