Every year.... He would give me a rose for every year he knew me... Every year he'd give me the same flower, a red rose, he would say the same words to me, "I love you", and every year that passed I would still think of him.... "Baobei! Let's go to the movies!" I asked Lay, my boyfriend. "I'm sorry baobei, but I have work...." he said as he was about to leave for work. "Ne... Arraseo..." I said a bit depressingly. Lay then saw my depressed face and walked towards me. I then felt him peck the top of my head and said "I love you baobei...." A smile grew on my face and I then said, "Get back home safely..." Lay then nodded and left for work. This kept on going until a few months later. We began to go on many dates and as it was finally my birthday, I waited for Lay as he was going to buy me my present. It was going to be my 20th birthday and as I heard the front door open, I knew that it was Lay! "Baobei!" I shouted. I then saw him empty handed and I was confused. He would normally give me red roses for my birthday to commemorate how many years I've known him for.... I then cocked my head and Lay then said, "Your flowers you ask? I'll get them later, right now... I planned a whole day ahead of us!" Lay then pulled out a piece of paper and unfolded it. I then tried to get a look at it, but Lay suddenly said, "Andwae! You can't look at all the stuff I planned for you!" Lay exclaimed. I then rolled my eyes and said, "Fine..." I said as I pouted. Lay then smiled at me and said, "Let's go to the Amusement park!" My eyes sparkled as I loved going to the amusement park After the amusement park, we then went for a romantic dinner and we then arrived home. As we arrived home, Lay suddenly got a phone call and he then said, "Baobei..." Lay said as he tried to force a smile. "Baobei, I have to get to work.... Okay..." I felt really sad about him leaving, but it's work so I then said, "Okay... I'll see you soon..." I said as I smiled and waved at him. He then suddenly hugged me tightly, "Baobei? What's wrong?" I asked as he hugged me tighter and tighter, "It's nothing... I just want to stay like this for a while...." "You're so weird. ." I said as I smiled. I then felt Lay tighten his hug a bit more as my head nuzzled into his chest. I smelt his cologne that he had on as I nuzzled my head deeper into his chest. Our hug lasted for a long time, until Lay then departed and kissed me on my lips. I then said, "I'll see you soon...." Lay then nodded and left as he had to leave for work. Lay then texted me that he had to go on a trip for his job, I then texted back "Have fun!" But after that text, Lay never texted me or called me. I was getting worried, until I suddenly got a call from an unknown number. "Yoboseyo?" "Yoboseyo? Do you know Zhang Yixing?" "Yes, w-waeyo?" I felt something was wrong when he asked me if I knew Lay. "Well... I need you to sign some papers for Zhang Yixing at the hospital..." "Eh......" L-Lay's at the hospital..... I felt my heart nearly burst as I was running to the hospital. As I was running to the hospital, I called Lay's workplace and they said, "Yixing? Oh him! He quit a few months ago." I knew at that moment, when Lay would get phone calls... I then followed him to his office and sat. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but he's gone.... We couldn't do anything to save him.... I'm sorry...." I felt so many tears pouring from my eyes as I heard the doctor. "But he did tell me to give you these...." the doctor then pulled something from under his desk and gave me a bouquet of red roses... There were 8 in all for all the years that I've known Lay.... Beside the bouquet was a small note inside. "Baobei annyoung! I know I wasn't there for you for the past few months, but even though I wasn't there, you're still with me... I've been struggling with this sickness for a long time now, and I wanted to die so badly... But you saved me... You gave me a reason to live my life again... I didn't want to leave you so soon, but just know that I love you..... Every rose I gave you... Every year I would say the same thing, but this year is different, unless all the flowers die... I will never stop loving you...." I then smiled a little as I thought, "How could he never stop loving me until the flowers die, if flowers do die..." Although as I read I kept on rereading and rereading as I lost my place every time my eyes blurred from my tears. After I read the note, I then signed the papers for Lay and went home.
Years later...
Everyday I would pass by a vase and I would remember our time together... Everyday I would see that one flower that didn't die... The only rose that kept Lay's love alive in my heart.... The red, plastic rose that never died...... I'll love you always Lay.... Always...
