Yes I used a Rihanna song as a chapter title.

IN MIZUHIME'S OPINION, THE WORST thing about training with her friends was the part where she got beat up.

With a pained groan, she fell to the ground, little bruises and scrapes littering her skin as she laid there, defeated. Maki stood over her triumphantly, the polearm she was using aimed at her.

"I win, again," the taller girl smirked smugly. Then she lent her a hand. "Come on."

"My whole body hurts," the bluenette whined, too weak to even lift up a hand to grab hers. "You're almost as bad as Gojo-sensei..."

"Ew, don't compare me to him," Maki scowled, before bending down to yank the poor girl up. Mizuhime let out another whine, but Maki just rolled her eyes. "Oh, don't be a baby."

"Everything huuuuuurts," she continued to whine even as she was yanked to her feet. "Maki-san, be careful, I'm delicate."

"How many times have I told you to cut it out with the 'Maki-san' shit?" She fumed. "It's Maki. Just Maki."

"Sorry," Mizuhime chuckled sheepishly. "I call everyone with -san."

"Except for Okkotsu," Maki's lips curled into a devious smirk. "Or should I say, 'Yuta-kuuuun~'. Be honest with me, you like him, don't you?"

Mizuhime's face instantly turned red. She scrambled to the other girl, finger pressed against her lips in a furious shushing motion as she stole anxious glances over to the side of the field, where Gojo and the boys were relaxing after a heavy training session. Thankfully, none of them seemed to pay the girls any mind.

"Maki-san!" She squealed in horror. "Don't say things like that out loud!"

"It's Maki, you dumbass," she huffed. "Now answer the question: you like Okkotsu, right?"

Mizuhime's face resembled a tomato at this point. She twiddled with her fingers nervously. "Y-Yuta-kun is a... erm, v-very nice so of course I like him...!"

Maki was just about to call her out on her bullshit until something dawned on her.

Mizuhime... was a very, very dumb person when it came to anything outside of academics. And Maki knew that she had been extremely sheltered prior to becoming a sorcerer, so could it be that...?"

"Oi, Hime..." She trailed off, eyes growing wide. "Don't tell me... Are you not even aware that you're crushing on him?!"

She blinked owlishly. "Crushing?"

"You like him. Romantically," Maki emphasized. "Like... you want to date him and all that gross, mushy stuff." She internally gagged at just the mention of romance.

Midnight blue eyes widened in realization. "O-oh... So you mean, like... in those books...?" She murmured the last part to herself.

She thought of all those books Yuta had recommended to her. She had read a good portion of them so far, and there was some romance going on in a few of them. She thought of the fictional couples she read about—Percy and Annabeth, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, Inej and Kaz, etc.—and remembered all the cute moments shared between them. Holding hands, kissing, all those sweet words that were exchanged...
