This story draws heavily from Muslim Andalusia circa 1000 C.E. That being said, it is still purely fictional and not to be associated with any historical record except in regards for inspiration in those societies but not to point of accuracy. Accuracy is the last thing this fictional, first draft can be regarded for.
Emirs in those societies had the same power as a duke and while this isn't your European ducal story, it is set in a time where hierarchies existed and people were distinguished based on them. I have also put footnotes at the end of each chapter for references I make within the story. Since it is the first draft, I want to focus on writing the story rather and getting it out there instead of obsessing over the details. Obviously later editions will have a much more easier-to-understand text and writing.
