It's the next day and as Hye-Ju wakes up she has a frown on her face. Usually, she would've had a smile on her face just thinking about seeing Gowon later at school. But not today, I mean how could she, after what she saw. As she gets ready, Gowon texts her that she's on her way. Hye-Ju texts, "great! see you here :)" Not wanting to confront Gowon, she just decides to let it happen. A couple of minutes later, she shows up. Hye-Ju says bye to her mom and heads out. As she walks out, she sees Gowon sitting by the curbside.
"Hey,"
"Oh- hey! I thought you were never going to come out." The older girl says.
"Oh, yeah, sorry. When you said ten minutes I didn't actually think you were going to be here in ten minutes exactly."
"Yeah, well here I am"
"Um, Hye-Ju? If you don't mind me asking, why didn't you come over yesterday to study? Did you forget? I mean I did call you like forty times." Gowon says.
"Oh, yeah about that-" Hye-Ju says nervously trying to make up a lie. I mean she can't just tell her that she saw her kissing one of her friends, right?
"I had to help my mom with some errands, and I didn't have my phone with me. I forgot to text you yesterday. Sorry about that." Hye-Ju says. The truth was she was laying in bed all afternoon thinking about all the reasons why Gowon didn't tell her she was seeing someone. Maybe she wasn't ready to tell anyone else. Well, that's what she kept telling herself. She knows the older girl trusts her. Right?
"Oh okay then, next time don't forget dummy." The older girl says jokingly.
As they walked to school, there was this loud silence between them. It was never usually like this. On a normal day, one of them would've been talking the other's ear off rambling about nonsense teenage girls in high school usually talk about. But not today. Quickly, Gowon noticed it. She found it oddly weird that the younger girl hasn't said a single word on their way to school. As they arrived, Gowon called her out about it.
"Hey, are you okay? You were awfully quiet. Usually, you would talk my ear off as soon as you see me." Gowon says.
"Hm? Oh, nothing's wrong. I'm okay, just thinking about stuff." Hye-Ju quickly says.
"Oh, what were you thinking about?" Gowon asks.
As Hye-Ju was about to come up with some sort of dumb excuse. The bell rings. Saved by the bell again. She thinks to herself.
"Oh, that's the bell. I better go." Hye-Ju says scared to make any eye contact with Gowon, fearing that the older girl would somehow be able to know what she was thinking.
"Oh, but-" Gowon says, being interrupted by the younger girl dismissing what she was about to say and basically running to class. The older girl was confused. Either the younger girl was just excited to go to class, which she highly doubts or she was hiding something from her. Gowon was determined to get it out of her. One way or another. But right now she just had to get to class, so she wouldn't be scolded by her teacher.
-------------
After leaving her third class of the day, Gowon heads over to her fourth class. As she was walking over there she saw Jinsoul and Lip. Geez, they are joined at the hip. Gowon thought to herself. Gowon approached Jinsoul since she thought maybe she or Lip knew what was going on with Hye-Ju. Gowon didn't want to pry into the younger girl's life, but she just had to know. Whether good or bad.
"Hey Jinsoul, do you know what is going on with Hye-Ju today? She's been acting a little distant." Gowon said.
"No, I haven't seen her today. But she's probably just avoiding me like always." Jinsoul says with a pout.
"Why? Did something happen between the two of you?" Lip asked.
"No, she just barely talked to me at all today on our way to school. But if you see her can you ask her if she's okay?" Gowon asks.
"Aye aye, captain!" Jinsoul says.
------------
The school day is finally coming to an end and Gowon has one last period. Algebra. Her favorite class, because Hye-Ju is in it. As she walks in, her eyes dart to her table where she and Hye-Ju usually sit. As she walks to the table she made eye contact with the younger girl for more than five seconds. Feeling flustered, they both look away from each other. As Gowon sits, it seems like Hye-Ju is facing away from her. Does she not want to talk to me? Is she mad at me? Did I forget something important? Gowon starts filling her mind with endless questions and trying to remember what she did that could possibly have made the younger girl upset. As for Hye-Ju, she was just avoiding the older girl's eyes hoping she won't bring up what happened in the morning. She wasn't mad. She was just jealous. Like if that was any better. Gowon broke the silence first.
"You know you can talk to me about whatever, you know?" Gowon says.
Of course, Hyejoo knew that, she just didn't want to tell her best friend that she was upset that she saw her kissing Sei. How could she even form the right words to say that?
"Yeah, I know. Thanks." Hyeju says not wanting to keep the conversation going.
As time went by, Gowon would steal occasional glances at the younger girl. Gowon was absolutely head over heels for the girl, she just didn't want her to know that. How was she ever going to confess to her best friend? Little did she know, Hyeju feel the exact same way. The younger girl pretended she didn't see Gowon glancing at her.
As the class finished up, the teacher gave them a couple of minutes to themselves. Usually, both of the girls would talk to each other about nonsense. Instead, Hye-Ju just got on her phone opening random apps, pretending like she wasn't waiting for Gowon to say something to her.
-------
It was finally the end of the day, Hyejoo just wanted to go home and play video games and Gowon just wanted to walk the girl home. As they exited the school, Gowon asked her a question.
"Hey, the girls are going to this party at JooE's house, you want to come? It's at 7:00 PM." Gowon asks hoping Hyejoo would say yes to the invitation.
"I don't know, I'll have to ask my mom if she needs me to stay home for anything. But if not I'll go. But only if your there." Hye-Ju says with a smile.
Hearing that gave Gowon butterflies. She was happy knowing that Hye-Ju was going to the party because she was going.
"Oh yeah, I'll definitely be there," Gowon says with a smile that Hye-Ju loves so much.
"Okay, see you there!" The younger girl says.
They parted ways to go home and both walked eagerly to their home to get dressed for the party.
