The time was running slow at that moment as they sat on a mattress, not so thick but can still provide comfort through the night. Tzuyu finally calmed but Sana wasn't. There's a lot of things to process: Tzuyu is actually Chaeyoung's best friend, the true story of what happened, Mina being mean and cold towards her too.
Those thoughts were rumbling inside her head when a ball, a soccer ball to be specific, randomly rolled towards her toe. That snapped her back to her senses, as if it was telling her to take a break from thinking deeply and observe the teenager's room for a while.
Tzuyu's bedroom wasn't really the best spot to hang out, that's the reason why the latter chose to wait outside lately. The room is half finished with rugs covering the concrete floor and soccer related posters hanging on the concrete walls. It was swarmed by the smell of a teenage girl: a candy scent cologne, expired food and some dirty clothes. To the left, there was nothing but a blank space, the other side with a shelf and a miscellaneous item on it. On top shelf, an encased cup sits. It's a trophy dipped in metallic gold. Next to the trophy, hanging on the gray, concrete walls, is a red jersey. Sana stared at it with her sharp eyes, it is a familiar soccer shirt.
She returned her gaze back to the ball that becomes familiar to her as well.
"You play soccer?" Out of nowhere, Sana started a conversation.
"A bit, thanks to Chaeyoung." Tzuyu sighed before lying her whole back on the mattress. "Maybe you're wondering how I met her..." Tzuyu was right. Sana wants to know.
"I could still remember, we were sixteen that time. I was just staring in front of Ulsan high, you know, dreaming to study and be a soccer varsity player there then I almost got run over by a bike which was Chaeyoung's. Thought she's gonna yell at me or something but she came to me to check if I was fine. That's how we became friends." Tzuyu smiled for a short time, because that memory was really beautiful.
"After that, we always meet in the same spot after school hours. I learned that she's living in Daegu, a bit far from here. She got expelled from every school you can find in that city because of her behavior. She used to prank her classmates but she never hurt someone, she doesn't want to go to school so sometimes she skipped classes. That's why she transferred here in Ulsan. She told me she'd like to still try to study because she didn't want to disappoint her parents once again." Sana starts to flash a smile now that she's knowing all of these slowly.
"Since my family can't afford my school, Chaeyoung surprised me with something, an effort. She started practicing soccer and tried out in a team. Then she'll teach me what she had learned every after school." Tzuyu then pointed her finger at the shelf where the trophy stands. "She won an mvp award too and gave it to me. She told me that her win was also my win." She added.
"She's such an amazing person." Sana was holding back her tears.
"Beyond amazing..." Tzuyu couldn't be more proud of her best friend. "There was also a time that we had a serious talk about education. Although I wasn't able to study, she told me that as long as a person is proactive, a degree means nothing. It's not that she hated studying, it's not for everyone, it's not fun for her that's why she kept ignoring school." Sana on the other hand, felt those words really familiar. She was so sure she heard those context before.
Tzuyu also uttered that Chaeyoung wanted to prove it to her but she left this world so early. She was expecting more from her friend, doing more exciting and amazing things not just for herself but for other people too.
Sana's heart pounds so fast, now that something came to her mind saying, "Yes, she's not here anymore... But it's proven. A proof is here, talking right in front of you, Tzuyu."
