I lazily opened my eyes as streaks of sunlight warmed my desk. I fell asleep on my desk again, the book from the night before still in my hand. I straightened my glasses and got ready for the day, wearing one of my long skirts and a simple, white top. After breakfast I went out on a walk to admire Encanto. I started walking through the busy shops looking around at whatever caught my eye.
As I continued walking, I eventually found myself in a medow surrounded by beautiful trees and a sea of flowing grass with a jacaranda tree in the middle of it. I brought out a book I had bought from one of the shops and started to read it under the tree. Not long after, I heard a rustle followed shortly by a certain Madrigal who seemed a little out of breath.
"Running away from those kids again?"
I laughed a bit as I looked up from my book. Mirabel walked over, laughing a bit between her breaths.
"Yeah. Their parents should really consider taking away their coffee. Whatcha reading?"
She took an apple out from her bag and sat down beside me, peeking over at the pages.
"A book I found in one of the shops."
Mirabel and I had been friends for a while. Being the only Madrigal without a gift, she wandered around town a lot. I also spent my days outside my house a lot just to walk around. My parents didn't care much, besides Encanto was safe enough. We ended up running into each other here and this sort of became our hangout spot.
"Is it good?"
"Yeah, I guess."
She began to read the book as well. We read a few pages before hearing another rustle in the brush. Mirabel's cousin stepped out also seeming a bit out of breath. Mirabel looked up from the book.
"Whatcha doing here, Camilo?"
Camilo started walking towards us under the tree and sat on the other side of Mirabel.
"Escaping from the kids you left."
I looked over at Camilo as he sat down, tilting my head to the side a bit.
"Came running straight to ya, huh?"
"I am a great entertainer."
Camilo was an interesting character. The kids had always loved him and, honestly, it was fun seeing him play around and entertain them with his gift. Mirabel and I would watch sometimes and laugh along with the kids as he shifted between the different characters in his stories.
"You wanna come over tonight for dinner, princesa?"
"Sure, if you give it up on the nickname."
"Never."
I rolled my eyes at Camilo. He's been calling me 'pincesa' since we started hanging out. Now he uses it more than my actual name. I tell him to give it up, but it's sort of become casual. I don't mind it as much as I used to. Mirabel got up and rolled her eyes at both of us.
"Alright you guys, stop flirting infront of me! Let's go walk around a bit before dinner."
We laughed and got up, Camilo the last one to stand. Mirabel took the lead as we walked around town. Camilo and I stood side my side, Mirabel walking ahead of us. Camilo talked to me in low voice so Mirabel couldn't hear. We continued looking straight ahead, but I knew he had a slight smirk on his face as always.
"I know you like my nicknames, princesa."
"In your dreams."
"Yeah, you like them there especially."
I laughed a bit. Mirabel turned checking to see if we 'flirting' again as she always said, but we just joked around. We looked back at her like we never said anything. She squinted her eyes at us and turned back around to continue our walk through town. We went back to our hushed conversation.
"If you don't like my nicknames then stop me."
"How?"
He put his hand to his chin in a thinking expression.
"Hmm... with a kiss?"
I rolled my eyes and gave him a sarcastic response.
"Ha, sure. Cause I want you soo bad."
"You guys know I could hear everything your saying, right?"
Mirabel shocked us a bit as she turned swiftly to face us with an annoyed and joking expression. We finished our walk in silence, Camilo and I only giving looks as we jokingly mocked each other. We arrived at casita shortly after. Dolores greeted us at the door with her slight smile. We gave each other a hug as we said hi.
"I heard you were coming over for dinner?"
"Yeah, Abuela woudn't mind, right?"
"You should be good, besides she loves you, the whole family does."
Mirabel gave me and Camilo a look as she walked through the doors.
"Especially Camilo~."
"Mirabel!"
I crinkled my nose at her and smiled as Camilo said nothing beside me. She just smirked at us as she walked to her room. Dolores waved and went to wash up for dinner leaving Camilo and I alone in the doorway.
"May I?"
He bent down a bit, one hand beind his back and the other being offered towards me.
"May you what?"
"Why, show pincesa to her chair of course."
I laughed a bit at his ridiculousness before flicking my hand towards him and dramatically turning my head in the other direction.
"I can find my own way, thank you."
The feel of his warm hand surpised me as he held it and kissed it lightly, looking up and smiling at me as he did. I froze for a second and pulled my hand back before shoving him away slightly.
"Don't do that!"
"As you wish, pincesa."
He chuckled to himself, pleased with my reaction. He knew I was flustered, damnit. Truth is, I like Camilo. I never admitted it, but now it was getting hard to hide it. It's like he knows and is just messing with me. It annoyed me, but I also kinda liked it. I looked to my side and noticed Mirabel and Dolores coming downstairs. They told us dinner was ready, Mirabel trying to hide a smirk that was forming on her face.
