Damnit. Camilo leaned against the window, his usual smirk now showed a look of concern.
"I thought you left.."
"I heard yelling. Got worried."
I took another bite and avoided eye contact.
"It's nothing real-"
"Hey. Talk to me.."
I sighed.
"Five years ago my parents divorced. About a year later, mama ran into my stepdad at the market. They began to talk, one thing led to another, and eventually he had asked him to marry her. However, not even two years later things started to fall apart. They fought a lot. Both started drinking. A few months later, mama's body couldn't handle the alcohol. She died of alcohol poisoning.."
Tears started to well up in my eyes.
"And now all he does is drink and party!"
Anger and frustration began to bubble up inside me. I took a nearby pillow and threw it at the wall. Camilo watched the pillow as it fell, stunned at the sudden action.
"I never knew a princesa like you could have such a bad childhood."
I looked at the ground, letting a tear fall.
"Yeah.. who knew?"
Camilo came around and kneeled in front of me, wiping the tear from my cheek.
"Hey. It's gonna be ok."
"Yea right."
"Look. Imma be here for you ok? And if you ever wanna escape you can just come over to my house."
He gave me a soft smile. It was nice to know he was there for me. I gave him a hug and he hugged me back. We stayed in that position for a minute until we decided to eat the rest of the breakfast Berto had left. Afterwards we headed out and walked around the Encanto.
