The bell rang releasing us from school. "It's finally summer!" I cheered. Kids my age rushed by finding their parents. I searched, but I couldnt spot my dad's truck so I started walking home. It's was only a mile or two away. I walked on the sidewalk until I reached my front door. I twisted the knob. The door crept open and I slid inside. I threw my bag on the table and went to the fridge. "We need to talk." I jumped as I turned around to see my dad sitting at the table. "About what?" I asked. "Come sit down. Is there anything you want to tell me?" He asked. "Ummm not that I know of. Why? What happened?" I asked confused. I sat down across from him. "Your friends told me that you have been talking about a girl. A girl named Claire." He looked at me, but it felt like he was looking right through me. "Yeah so. I like her what does it matter?" I shrugged. "Ummm Well first off she's a girl." He closed his eyes and I could feel the tension rising in the room. "Zac, Honey you need to take it easy on her." My mom came and put a hand on his shoulder. "Emily stay out of this." He demanded. "Why is it so bad that I like a girl?" I shifted in my seat. It was quiet in the room for what felt like an hour. "We didn't raise you like that! God made man for woman No other way!" He yelled. Tears were streaming down my cheeks. " Zac! We will support her life choices not matter what! " my mother demanded. "Speak for yourself! I won't support her! She wasn't raised to like girls. It isn't right!" He pushed his hand through his dark brown hair. "Zac! She is our first child together! Our one and only daughter! We will support her! So quit being an asshole and start acting like a father!" My mom walked back to her room. My dad looked at me one last time. "It isn't right. You should know that." He whispered. He stood up and walked out the front door slamming it behind him. Oh No. This was all my fault. Why couldn't I just be normal.
