After about an hour of wandering round, I arrived home. The memory of the group of boys, still burning in my mind. Gosh that was embarrassing!
When I got home, I went straight to my room. I flopped on the comfy bed and fell straight asleep.
3 hours later, Susan woke me up.
"Lucy, dinner time!!" she yelled up the stairs
"huh?" I sat up groggily in bed and slowly got up, trying not to fall over like I do when I get up too fast.
I walked into the kitchen when the gorgeous smell of chicken fajitas hit me. I lived for fajitas!! Caoimhe, my social worker trained her well!
I sat down at the table, just as a big plate of food was placed in front of me.
"dig in." Susan smiled at me and I smed back, my mouth already full of food.
"so Lucy, I've enrolled you in the local school, you'll be starting tomorrow, the sooner you get into the run of things, the better, eh?"
I just stared at her and groaned. Me and school, well we never really mixed well. I'm the prime target for bullies. The 'foster kid' or 'the freak'.
''of course." I smiled at her. After all there was nothing I could do about it anyway.
"your uniform is hanging up in your wardrobe. I'm sure it will fit perfectly." she smiled gently at me
After polishing off every ounce of food on the plate, I went up to my room to find my uniform hanging up in my wardrobe, all neat and crisp. A school bag full of new books and stationary were sitting at the bottom of the wardrobe also.
I sighed and got into my onsie. What was I expecting anyway? Never going to school? Yeah, that was likely.
I was actually quite smart, that wasn't a problem. It was the endless torments, shoves into the lockers, snide comments, being the victim of every cruel joke. And knowing, I'm just being bullied for the same reasons my dad put me into care. I was a freak, a ugly, fat, worthless freak.
I slid into my bed and turned of the light. "maybe this one won't be so bad" I thought to myself as I drifted off. 'maybe this time....."

I woke up the next morning the "delightful" ring of my alarm. I rolled over, it was 6:45.
I groaned and fell out of bed, landing on the floor with a loud thud. I made my way downstairs, rubbing my head. Gosh, I was a clutz!
I had a quick shower, then went downstairs to have breakfast. I ate my cereal really fast and raced upstairs I get ready. I got into my uniform and put my hair up in a messy bun.
I stared at the reflection in the mirror. I was a completely new person than who I used to be. I tugged at my sleeves to reveal the ugly, penetrating scars of the demon people call "self harming." I was so fortunate to be where I am now.
What about dad though, where was he now? What was he doing? How is he?
I pushed those thoughts to the back of my mind, it was my first day, I couldn't be distracted.
I raced downstairs at 8:00 and Susan and I hopped into the car.
"where is John?" I asked "I haven't seen him since I got here."
"he works a lot." she smiled at me sadly. "but hey, we can have fun together okay! I'll make brownies for when you get back okay." just then we pulled up outside a big secondary school.
"need me to come in with you?"
"no thanks I'll be okay. I've done this a million times before. I'll see you after school." I smiled at her, even though I'm pretty sure she wasn't convinced.
She just smiled and drove away though as I made my way into the big school. Eventually, I found the reception desk.
"you new here.?" a small, old lady asked. She didn't seem very friendly.
"yeah I am." I smiled shyly.
"name?" she sighed, already very bored at our conversation.
"Lucy Byrne."
"I'll be back in a minute, I'm getting your time table." she huffed
"how polite..." I murmured under my breathe.
"don't mind her, she isn't that bad once you get used to her" a raspy voice spoke behind me.
I jumped and turned around.
"holy shit" I breathed " don't do that!!! You scared the living daylights out of me!" I turned around to find the curly haired boy standing behind me.
He chuckled softly then extended his hand. "harry. I'm Harry Styles."
"Lucy Byrne...." I said staring at his hand. What was the catch?
"I dont bite." he smiled at me
"yeah, but you probably have one of those electric ring thingies or something!"
"nope!" he laughed. I look at his hand suspiciously then shook it.
"nice to meet you Harry." I smiled.
"so why are you here?"
"I'm here to show you around. I'm your 'official buddy'."
"here you go dear." the woman'a voice spoke out and I jumped again.
"something wrong?"
"no, sorry, I'm just a bit jumpy today, sorry." I smiled at her as I took my timetable. "bye then dear." she spoke quickly
"but-!" but it was too late, she closed the hatch. "ehm harry...... Do you know where room..... Ehm....." I studied my timetable vigorously but I couldn't make heads or tales of it. This wasnt how they were in Ireland!
Harry took my timetable off me. "room g-14." he spoke. "the art room. I'm in your class actually, I'll bring you down."
"thanks" I squeaked, then frowned at my voice, what was up with me?
"no problems" he chucked as we mad our way down the corridor to art.
We just chatted along the way, and for some reason, I kept getting dirty looks from the girls? I just shrugged it off and kept walking. We just walked into the art room when I hear the ever so familiar "hey, why are you talking to that freak?"
I let out a sigh. "I-I wasn't. I was telling that bitch to mind her step. She bumped into me." he half stuttered.
"is that right?" the boy sharply spat at me.
"yes, it is, sorry." I sighed.
I sunk down into my seat, well too aware of the glares being aimed at me from all different directions. They were practically burning through my skull. "well that was too good to be true." I thought to myself. I just say there by myself waiting for the teacher to come in.
