They just sat in silence. Rydel looking at Ellington and Ellington looking at the necklace.
After a while, Rydel looked at Brent. "Let's finish practising." Brent nodded and turned to Ellington, wanting the necklace back however Ellington stubbornly held onto it.
"Brent, just leave it with him. he's not crying or whining so hes not gonna bother us." Rydel pleaded. They both got up, leaving Ellington looking at the necklace, still dreamy-eyed.
Rydel kissed his head softly and ruffled his hair before walking over to Brent who was getting ready to dance.
"Maybe if we watch the footage from last lessons security cameras, we can pick up the areas you need to improve on and go over them." Rydel suggested.
"That's a good idea." Brent agreed, "I'm going to the bathroom. get the videos for when i get back"
Rydel walked into the office and logged onto the computer, searching for the security footage. She found it and clicked on the one labeled.
"Rydel's dance class, episode 364"
also known as the most recent dance class that had been recorded.
Rydel clicked on it and began to watch the footage. After a couple of seconds she began to fast-forward through it.
She immediately paused it. she could not believe what she was seeing.
Behind the two dancing figures was a window. Faintly but clear enough, Rydel could just see a figure she knew all too well amongst the bushes. It was dark and a little blurry but it was pretty clear who it was. it was Ellington.
pieces began to fit together easily as Rydel realised why Ellington had been mad and why he thought she was cheating. Guilt and sadness rose in her throat. Because she had been dancing with her cousin, the love of her life had been hit by a car and had probably permanent brain damage, stuck as a little kid in his mind.
"Heyyy" Brent bounded in. Rydel looked up, desperately holding her tears in.
"Im sorry Brent but i have to go. just do everything I told you to and your prom will be amazing." She stuttered, trying her best not to cry. She shut down the computer and ran back to Ellington.
Ellington had lost interest in the necklace although was still holding it tightly. He looked up at Rydel as she ran in.
"come on Ellybear we gotta go." she told him, gathering his things.
"thanks Rydel! and he can keep the necklace!" Brent yelled just as he left the building.
Rydel threw Ellington's bag over her shoulder and got up, picking Ellington up too. he lay his head on her shoulder wearily, closing his eyes and holding onto her pink jacket. he has gotten slightly lighter than earlier which worried Rydel quite a lot.
Rydel walked out to her car and put Ellington in his seat. He tried to keep holding onto her.
"c'mon Ellybear, you have to let go" she cooed, gently prying his long fingertips from her jacket. he whined a little but she handed him his bottle and soon enough, he was sat holding the bottle in both his hands and drinking it sloppily. She wiped the drool off his chin before closing the door and getting into the drivers seat. She put the keys in the ignition and with a small sigh of tiredness, she drove away.
Ellington snored softly, the bottle now empty lying on the floor. Rydel continued to drive. After driving a further thirty minutes, Rydel stopped the car and got out. She walked around the car and opened Ellington's door.
Immediately Ellington woke up, his eyes sleepy and the necklace still laced around his fingers. The building they had parked outside of loomed behind them. Rydel lifted Ellington out. He grabbed onto her tightly. She also lifted out his bag.
Together, they walked towards the building. Rydel climbed the steps leading up to the door, one by one, Ellington holding on tightly. A smiley nurse came out to meet them.
"Can I have a minute with him please?" she asked softly, biting her lip.
"of course!" the lady exclaimed positively before stepping back a bit.
Rydel feel gently to her knees, putting Ellington on the cold stone floor. He looked at her, not understanding at all what was going on. she lightly dropped his bag beside him.
"Hey Ellybear" she half- whisperd looking into his eyes. "This is a special hospital for special children. you're going to live here from now on."
he looked at her and managed to say. "w-with ywou?"
she sighed softly, trying not to cry. "im afraid not baby. i have to go. you're gonna have a great fun life without me."
"w-what did i dwo?! im sworry! i will be gooder!" he yelled, beginning to sob which only made it harder for Rydel not to cry.
"you didn't do anything, i promise" she whispered, a tear falling.
Rydel unlaced the necklace from around his fingertips and unclipped it. she tilted his head forwards and clipped it fairly loosely around his neck.
"wear this" she pointed to the necklace "and i shall always be with you." She paused. "always in here" she pointed to her heart and then his heart.
"goodbye Ellybear and I love you."
She kissed his cheek softly and ruffled his hair one last time before making her way down the steps and into her car. as soon as the car door closed, the tears began falling fast and hard. She took one last look at him before driving away.
