soda
i woke up and it is now dark. the last thing i remember is falling asleep in the bed of steve's truck. i check my watch  and see that it is now 9:17.

"stevie," i say shaking my new boyfriend. "stevie, c'mon, we gotta get home darry is gonna kill me."

he groaned as acknowledged my words.

"oh shit." he stretched. "if you think he'll kill you, i might as well be diggin' my own grave."

we jumped out of the bed and got back into the cab of the truck.

steve stuck the key into the ignition and reved up the pretty blue truck he calls his baby.

we got home before 9:30 thanks to steve and his fast driving.

"hey, darry," i said, opening the front door for steve.

"where have y'all been?," darry asked with more concern than anger in his voice.

before i could answer, steve did for me.

"dar, i'm sorry. it's my fault. we went for a drive and fell asleep in the back of my truck. it's all my fault, don't blame soda."

"you two had me scared. you lovebirds gotta think a little."

i heard an "oooh" come from the floor next to the couch.

"didn't think you'd ever get him, steve. 'specially with all those girls trying to get him," two-bit said.

"yeah, and i'm sure y'all we 'sleeping'," dallas says, using air quotes. "can't fool me, man. i know what goes on in the bed of a truck at 9 o'clock at night."

my face blushes bright red.

"yeah, i'm sure you do. that's why you and two-bit are always out late 'partying'," i said, returning the attitude i just received.

now dally, yes the dallas winston, is blushing. i knew i caught him. two-bit just looked down at the ground, not ready to admit i was right.

"okay, y'all. stop it, now. there's kids upstairs," darry says, referring to pony and johnny.

"oh come on, darrel. you really think that they are studying. they both look at each other with heart eyes," steve says. i admit, he's just speaking facts.

"you right. you right. well, you're all gay."

"no shit. really?" dally says the sarcasm a little too thick in his voice.

"dallas," darry warns. "not today."

"okay... daddy."

two-bit faked an offensive act.

"dallas winston. you're only supposed to call me that."

"no, no, no." dally chuckled as he spoke. "you got that all wrong, sweetheart. you're supposed to be callin' me 'daddy'."

"shut up!"
