In the throne room...
The council sat quietly. For once. Not one god dared comment, not even Ares. Poseidon had partially destroyed his own throne, along with Athena's before storming out. Literally. He turned into a hurricane when he was brought the news of his son's passing. No body left to burn. Nothing. The remaining seven told the story. There was no way Percy nor Annabeth were alive. They found a piece of presumably Annabeth still crumbling. Zues or Hestia would have tried calming him down, but they knew they could be turning his anger on them instead, which neither was inclined to at the moment. It had to have been millennia since anyone had seen Poseidon this upset, if ever.Poseidon
My boy...my greatest achievement...my proudest 17 years of my long immortal life. Gone. That so called wise, gray eyed bitch and her filthy children. They made their bed, now they will lay in it.
I bust into my private chambers of my Atlantean palace to find a wide eyed Amphitrite sitting on the bed. "G-get the fuck out," I ordered shooting a glare at my wife, making it clear that now was not the time for any of her bitching and whining. Lashing the door behind her with the strongest of locks, "Iris don't let anyone through to me." I crawled into bed and started planning on how I should enact my vengeance on the "wisdom" goddess's children.
Zues, along with the other Olympians were the only thing stopping me from flashing directly into cabin 6 and giving my undivided attention to each and every one of those proud grey eyed freaks. My only solace is that I wasn't the only one feeling this way. Hephaestus, Apollo, Aphrodite, and most surprisingly Artemis all had words for Athena as well. I was beyond words at the moment. I lost control of my domain, I'm not positive but I'm betting that most of the world anywhere close to water has a travel ban. FEMA probably has their hands full.
What should I do? Should I do what Percy would do? Just forget and let live? No. Absolutely not.
Should I go up to New York and look for another Sally and try for another Percy? Nope. Another horrible idea. There's a better chance that Apollo could form a decent sounding haiku, and that's still far off.
Should I flood the camp "on accident" while they're asleep? Call it a freak accident. "Ope! Im sorry I didn't MEAN to kill all of your children." Maybe...no, no that won't pass. I'd have an all out war on my hands.
Maybe I should just go see Sally and pass on the news. I still truly love Sally...but she has Paul and last I heard was pregnant with his child. It won't be that type of visit, but one that a loving father would be expected to make. Yes...I do need to do this, it's what Percy would have wanted.
I slowly crawled off the side of my bed like I'd been on a binge and was in need of more juice.
Pushing myself to get my ass up, I jumped up and gave myself a few slaps across the face to try to seed some urgency into my mind. I started getting dressed, deciding against the usual bermuda shorts and hawaiian shirt, instead settling for a crisp black tux with a murky green bowtie. Looking like I'm ready for a funeral, I gather my courage and I flash to Sally's apartment feeling like a chaplain delivering the news of a soldiers death.
I arrived in her kitchen, not feeling like going through the traditional "knock, knock" phase. I don't have time for that.
Looking around I don't see Sally, but I hear crying. I crept closer to the far wall bordering the doorway to the living room where I knew Sally would be.
Then I heard another voice, "Sally Im sor-" I tuned it out. Sounds like Nico is already on it.
What kind of father am I? His friends beat me to the punch! I should just flash back to my lonesome and save myself the tears. Yes, I don't know if I can stand to-
"Well at least there's hope. Do you plan on telling the Olympians," I heard Sally ask, sounding like her sobs were coming to an end.
What the fuck are they talking about?
Sneaking closer, "No. Not yet at least. Me and father are the only ones who know and he's decided to keep it that way for awhile. Hell, I probably wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't been for me being made the King of Ghosts. But, father thinks it would be unwise to tell the council until we have something solid. We'd hate to tell Poseidon and have it turn out to be a mistake or a delayed process and then he'll be at our throats and he's not really the guy to make empty threats. He's probably already scheming on some Athena camper. But I think it's only right that you should kn-"
"Nico, is that really what you think of me? You think me not understanding," I said hearing the news that brought hope back into my eyes.
I stepped around the corner to see a horrified looking Sally, who was trying to regain her composure. She was sitting next to Paul who was gaping like a guppy, staring at me like I'm some kind of higher power or something.
Nico, on the other hand was pale, more pale than usual. Looking from his IM at me to Sally and back. He had donned the face of a person who had just dropped a steamy loaf in his drawers and wasn't a hundred percent sure if the pants were salvageable.
"Nico, don't worry. I was just messing with you, but please, if you could go over it all one more time...that would be much appreciated," I said in my 'don't try to fuck me around' voice.
"O-o-okay...but unc-uncle please don't do anythi-"
"Nico. Tell me. Now," I said popping a squat next to Sally on the couch.
"Okay, okay. So when Annabeth was first stabbed she started to crumble, almost like Gaea's 'venom' or power was spreading through her. But when Percy was stabbed it looked like Gaea had hardened his wound as to keep him alive and it wasn't spreading like Annabeth's was..."
He let the news sink in for a few seconds before starting again, "When the battle was finally over we rushed over to see Annabeth still falling apart...but Percy was gone. We also never found her sword or her yankees cap..."
It started to click for me, "So is that all..?"
"No...me and dad thought that maybe Gaea's attacks could have simply made them fade. But then Annabeth's soul passed into Elysium...alone."
"So he was captured! We should be scouring the ear-"
"No, no," he interjected. "At least my father doubts it. Gaea was taken by surprise by Leo and he thinks she didn't have time to enact her plan. What it was doesn't seem to matter now that she's once again unconscious and likely didn't have a backup plan for getting swooped up by a magic bronze dragon being piloted by a small lunatic latino," he replied with a small smile.I hope you guys are enjoying this. I am taking it kind of slow because I do plan on making this a longer story, but it will pick up next chapter.
Im going to probably do at least one chapter a night because I personally hate waiting on anything so Im gonna try to find my happy medium between quality and quantity.
Please let me know what you think so far.
