"Momma?" little William asked, standing next to his mother. "Where do all the kids go during the day? Where does Laura go?"
His mother chuckled at the 3-year-old. "They go to kindergarten, sweetie. Laura goes to school, you know that."
William furrowed his brows. "Kindgarden? What's that?"
His mother squatted down to her son's level, leaving the chopping for a second. "Kindergarten. It's where parents who work during the day take their kids," she explained.
"But why? I have no one to play with," William pouted.
"They have to go to kindergarten, William," his mother said, standing up again to resume making lunch.
William furrowed his brows, thinking it over. "Then I want to go to kind-er-gar-ten too!" he announced.
His mother looked down. "Why? Do you not like it with me at home?"
"I like it," the boy said. "But I want to play with the other kids."
"Okay then," his mother chuckled. "You can start kindergarten next week."
"Yay!" the kid cheered.

"Behave, William, okay?" his mother said, standing up.
"Yes, momma!" William promised absentmindedly, looking around in wonder.
Chuckling, his mother left, leaving William to run around excitedly.
"No running, William!" one of the teachers warned, stepping in front of the boy.
"But why?" William pouted.
"Because you could bump into the smaller kids and make them fall," she explained.
"Sorry, Ms.," William apologized. "It won't happen again, I promise."
The teacher smiled. "Good. Go on then."
William nodded, walking off quickly.
