Cletus
"Ahem," the young girl was frozen still, as she stared blankly at the rusty old cell. Her eyes widened as she stared at the man inside. She watched him, like he was a creature in a cage and her a child who just discovered their favorite animal. His red curly locks, resembled the blood orange fur-coat of a tiger.

When she spoke she sounded like a recording, as if she rehearsed those very words a hundred times, "Hi, I'm Scarlet Pierce. I'm a reporter, and I wanted to ask you some questions regarding..."

Then for the first time in the few seconds he'd known her, she choked. It was the most human thing she'd done in those very few seconds. She stood there frozen for a moment, but the smile never faded from her pretty face, she never blinked once. It was as if there was a glitch in her code.

Scarlet cleared her throat, and continued, "Well regarding the events that transpired a few years ago."

He knew what 'events' she was referring to, the mass killings he committed just years ago. Cletus couldn't wrap his mind around why this young girl was so fascinated about the horrors that were his past, and ultimately his future once he got out of prison, and he would get out. He was sure of it.

Cletus Kasady sat up from his cot slowly, never taking his eyes off of her, his head cocked to one side, puzzled by everything she was. He gave her a half smile, "Scarlet, no one told me you were coming."

She swallowed hard, and all the color drained from her already pale face. Scarlet smiled a warm smile, and looked down at her red velvet flats; they had a golden buckle across the top that matched the gold necklace around her neck. Now that she was off script she didn't seem so strange anymore. In fact she seemed more childlike, too innocent for her own good.

"I'm not being completely truthful," Scarlet confessed, her brows furrowed and her lips pursed and her hands trembling.

"Is that so," Cletus arched his brow and crossed his arms, and with one dissaproving glance she told him everything.

"Well, you see no one knows I'm here. I should mention I'm not actually a reporter yet. Right now I'm just an intern, " A look of shame rushed over her face.

He chuckled to himself. She just stared blankly at him, almost mesmerized. She stepped closer to his cage, caressing the bars with her hand. Her eyes were the size of the moon, "My father would have a cow if he knew I was in here."

"Scarlet he has nothing to worry about, the guards let you in, and they wouldn't let anything bad happen now would they," he looked behind her, but no one was there. A smile snaked its way onto his slimy lips.

A few months ago Cletus noticed that after a certain time the guard began to throw the towel in early. They got sloppy, leaving his cell unattended. That's when he began to play with the idea of escaping.

"Where are those guards by the way, in ear shot I'm sure. Perhaps just trailing behind? So we can have our privacy?" He smiled as he asked, because he knew she was alone.

She looked behind her, and shook her head no, "No, Sir, no guards I let myself in. I took these off my fathers desk, "Then she pulled a ring of keys from her pocket, and presented them to him.

He leaned in and marveled at them. Everything was falling into place right into his lap. An angel stood in front of him, a halo of moon light shone on her head from the small skylight in the ceiling.

"But you can't tell anyone, "she snapped the keys back.

Cletus looked up at her, and an awful thought crossed his mind. He smiled at the young gullible girl in front of him, "Scarlet, you have my word," he said as he gave a toothy grin.
