Y/N kept their left hand jammed in their lab coat's pocket for the majority of the day, a habit they had picked up over the last week. It was...far too repulsing to look at, even with a glove and their lab coat covering their whole arm. That, and they didn't even know how to work their arm properly at the moment. It was a bit difficult to continue working, but they managed the best they could do. This time, however, they couldn't brush it off.
"Haha! That tickles!" Cubot laughed as he laid on a makeshift repair table, his body in pieces. "That is, if I could feel that. Where's my arm?"
"Quiet," Y/N snapped. "If this takes any longer than my break, I'm leaving you here." Of course, they didn't mean it; in fact, Orbot and Cubot were probably their favorite part of being in the lair. Which was saying something. They snapped pieces together as quickly as possible, becoming irritated with the loud buzzing from the lights in the dingy storage room.
"Oh, thank you again, Y/N. I wish I knew how to do it myself," Orbot sighed, "considering how many times he's been disassembled." He flew around the room, a makeshift form of pacing, before standing by Y/N's side. "That's the last time I'm letting you try bungee jumping with an old extension cord, Cubot."
"Awwwww!"
"Don't you try that now, you... Ugh, be happy you're being reassembled, at least! I'm certain that Eggman would have made you a paperweight for the time being, until he needed you again," Orbot warned. Y/N let out a short laugh. That sounds about right, they thought, and- Wait. Did he say bungee jumping? Agh. I should've just walked away when Orbot showed up holding that square-brained moron's head.
"Almost done...in about a minute or two, you'll be good as new." Y/N lifted their hand out of their pocket again, mainly securing parts together with their palm, rather than their whole hand.
"Y/N," Cubot asked, "did you hurt your hand?"
"Something like that." They shook his head a bit, making sure it was completely secure. Seeing nothing wrong, they stepped back, hands in their pockets. "Good as new. Maybe better. When was the last time you've had any maintenance?"
"Maintain-ence? If you're talking about Orbot jammin' my head onto my body again using a stepladder and a box of rusty screws, I'd say it's been about...two weeks."
"Three," Orbot corrected. "I try not to do it often, since it sends your voice chip into...another fritz of yours."
"Last time it was...pirate, wasn't it?" Y/N asked, starting to smile as they recalled the event.
"No, it was something else... I can't pinpoint what exactly it could be called, but he sounded like a mad scientist."
"I remember now," Y/N beamed. "Cubot, you did this maniacal laugh, and the doctor got so mad you could do one better than him!" They laughed for the first time in at least a month. These two were practically impossible to deal with for long periods of time, but they always made Y/N smile. "Oh, that was ama-"
The ground shook slightly underneath them, sending Y/N into a much more agitated mood. Chances were, it was some other experiment that the doctor got wrong. Typical morning for Y/N... Or it would have been, had the shaking stopped.
