It wasn't a sudden change, although it certainly must've seemed that way. None of his subjects noticed the underlying hunger for power in King Ryan. Of course, covering that up wasn't any difficult task. The only true threats to his façade were Geoff and Jack, since they were a bit more observant. The other three didn't matter to the king.

Much to King Ryan's delight, even those two didn't seem to have any suspicions. One wrong move and his subjects would surely stage a coupé.

His first act of depravity was transforming a mundane cow into a violent killing machine. When questioned about where Edgar went, the king only grinned and replied that everything was alright, that Edgar was fine.

The appearance of a new servant puzzled the others, and his sudden disappearance brought about more questions. Again, King Ryan dodged these inquiries with assurances and a charismatic smile.

While the horrors remained hidden, the madness brewed quietly. After everything was set in place, with confidence (brought about by belief of his own infallibility, probably bolstered by the madness), the King called a gathering to the throne.

This was where it would all go to hell.
