Children of naivety rushed ahead, leaving everything behind and running away from problems. The mournful voices repeated the same thing over and over, trying to drown out the exceptionally loud silence.
The road was endless, and every other step felt like the last one to Valeri, she cursed her old self in her head, who considered school reading or history lectures, as the greatest torments. Exhaustion, hunger and homesickness, weight on her, slowly destroying her not only from the outside but also from the inside.
She was also troubled by the lack of any safety, in the end she was clueless about what was lurking around the corner, which she had to overcome without any doubts.
"It feels horrible to look at you, perhaps you should look for any civilization, stay there for a while and take a break" Aziel offered, appearing beside his sister in his ghost form. He tried to talk sense to her at all cost, but on the other hand, he knew her long enough that, he was sure this won't work, because she put her own way since childhood, which usually ended up with a short summary of the whole situation "I told you so".
This time it was about something more than just pure satisfaction, it was about the life of his beloved younger sister, who had been rushing forward to her desired place for several days, disregarding the consequences as usual. If Aziel was in his human body, he would force her to go to a first random village and start a peaceful life again, but fate wasn't so kind, and he had to cope with it.
She turned around to face him.
"I can't, you'll disappear soon, you'll die, but this time it's irreversible" She started saying as she rubbed her weakened face "And I will not be able to even keep in contact with you, since I'm loosing my own gift, Aziel this is our only chance" she said with the last of her strength, if there was actually any left.
If it weren't for her brother, and the desire to bring him back to his human body, she would immediately run into a fire and leave in peace to a better place, where she could endlessly play the guitar and drink liters of tea with cinnamon, honey and lemon.
"I am not worth your dead, Valeri, I beg you, search for a place, where they are going to get you atleast a small, warm meal." The upset spirit said as he scretched his arm, shimmering with white light over the teenager's arm.
"I can do it, just believe in me, like I've believed in you this whole time" She muttered. She couldn't deny that she was bothered by hunger. Just by thinking about mushroom soup or warm croissants, her stomach was growling, however, there were things more important, after all, she ate last night, so what could've happened?
Aziel was horrified by the emptiness he saw in her eternally enthusiastic eyes, well not eternally, but what does this eternity mean? He got lost in his own mind, spraying in the midst of a cool wind.
Valerie marched briskly, with one place stuck in her head - Encanto, the words of her Mother, who claimed that the magic was also there, took root in her memory, and this way, without hesitation, she chose the place as her desired goal. She looked at a meticulously drawn map, in a notebook she had received from her parents. She knew she would have to look through it more carefully, because a hurried glance through the pages, didn't tell her much.
Every little while, she heard voices in her mind, which tried to reach her. The charms of her gift, which she sometimes cursed. The multitude of all these thoughts brought her to the starting point, she stopped for a moment, only seeing the roaring fire before her eyes, in her ears she could only hear cries of pain and horror, she still didn't know what had actually happened, only a few days had passed since this catastrophe, and she pushed the thought of it away from her as much as she could.
