— fighting demons.

Regulus Black is, again, nowhere to be found. He hasn't shown up in their potions class and Callisto had to work on their project alone. Again. But thanks to his notes she had it a lot easier than before. Not this constant leafing through thousands of books.
Her fingers trace over the carefully organized notes he had written for her; neat, precise, as if he had planned every word.
It's strange. This year, she's been working on her potion project with someone who seems less and less like the person she thought she knew.
He hasn't been in class for a while now. Not Transfiguration. Not Potions. Not anywhere. And there is no sight of Regulus Black at dinner. The Slytherin table is full of students, but that one in particular is missing. When Callisto enters the Great Hall, she tries her best to ignore other students staring at her.
As she walks to the Slytherin table, she notices Remus looking at her. She waves at him before sitting down at her table, not paying attention to other people. She's immediately aware of the uncomfortable stares. Gossip has been swirling ever since her accident during Quidditch tryouts, and it seems like every student in the school has something to say about her. But none of them understand. None of them know the truth.. Only when she takes her eyes off Remus, Callisto realizes she sat down next to Rosier and across from Crouch.
"What's up McAdams?" Barty asks, wearing his typical disgusting grin, like a cat that just caught a mouse. He knows he isn't allowed to step over the line when they're in a public space like the great hall or else he'll get detention. But Crouch isn't stupid. In public, his weapons aren't his actions but rather his words. With them he's able to cut Callisto deeper than any knife.
"What do you want?" Callisto replies harshly. She can feel Rosier shift in his seat besides her, realizing he hasn't looked at her since her arrival.
"Finally got some friends I see?" Barty concludes, pointing with his head at Lupin, Potter, Pettigrew and Black. His stupid grin won't disappear.
"Just mind your own business." She answers, feeling his eyes on her.
"I was just thinking.." Barty breathes out. "Sirius Black and you would make a lovely couple. Two disgraces to their family. Would be perfect, right?"
There it is. He's playing with her, provoking her. Callisto swallows, trying to hold her anger back. That's exactly what he's trying to do. He wants her to act so she gets in trouble. Callisto's patience is beginning to wear thin. She opens her mouth to snap back, but before she can say anything, Rosier speaks up, his voice low but steady.
