since it's tuesday, here's the first background chapter! let's talk some typography.
this is a common misconception, but it has a simple explanation!
fonts are the varying weights of a typeface. a typeface is a family of fonts.
for example (and you can see below), baskerville is a typeface, baskerville bold and etc. are fonts.

disclaimer: these are not all typefaces i would recommend, they are just decent examples. magis authentic (i spelled it wrong in the image lol) doesn't have fonts but i added it as a recc because i like it (to some extent), though. i absolutely adore types like gishella morely, but something like linux libertine is not exactly my forte.

i misuse the terms all the time, and although i don't personally believe which term you use matters all that much—i mean, like kel lauren said: "font or typeface, depends on how pretentious you are." lol. most people just say "font", but it's still important terminology to differentiate when needed! (and to use in proper situations. i only learned of it a week or so ago, so.. yeah. definitely good to know :)
