"Shit!" I exclaimed, shooting up from where I was laying next to Dally. He groaned as I quickly put back on my bra. "Dal, what time is it?"
"I dunno." He muttered. "Come back to sleep."
"I can't!" I whisper-yelled, standing up and getting dressed. "It's definitely after 10 and Dar's probably worried sick. God I'm so dead."
I quickly buttoned my shirt, pulled on my shoes, and flattened my hair. "Bye, Dal. See you tomorrow." I said quickly with a sweet smile. He waved at me and went back to sleep. Meanwhile I ran down the hill that the church was on and started sprinting back home. I was in so much trouble. Luckily it was a Friday so I could catch up on the sleep I lost tomorrow.
When I got there, I saw that the porch light was on and so was the living room light. That meant Darry was awake - which meant I was in deep shit. I crept up the porch stairs, thinking maybe it was just Pony in the kitchen or something. Maybe Darry was still sleeping and maybe I could weasel my way out of this one. Taking one final deep breath, I slowly opened the screen door.
When I entered, Darry shot up from his chair. Fuck.
"Where the hell have you been, Priscilla?" He boomed, stepping toward me. "Do you know what time it is?"
I glanced at the clock, and with wide eyes I realized it was nearly 3 in the morning. "I'm sorry, Dar. I lost track of time." I said, staring down at the flats I was wearing. I only know realized my shoes were on the wrong feet because of the rush I was in, but that was the least of my problems.
"Of course you're sorry. Meanwhile I've been sittin' here for hours waitin' for you to meander on back home." Darry put his hands on his hips and sighed. "All while you've been out havin' fun with God knows who. You look like a damn leper."
I shrunk down into myself, embarrassed that I didn't look in a mirror before I got home. I had completely forgot that hickeys existed, and I blushed.
"Where were you?" Darry asked. I didn't really want to tell him, knowing he would get mad. But if I lied, I knew things would be worse. So I made a decision.
"Out." I shrugged, peeking up at him through my eyelashes. He raised an eyebrow.
"Well, obviously, Priscilla." He sighed. "But where?" I could see I was obviously getting under his skin, which wasn't a good thing to do when it was so late at night.
"The abandoned church." I replied. I didn't want to get into further detail.
"Alone?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. I shook my head. "With who? A boy?"
"I don't want to tell you." I admitted.
"Well you need to." Darry sighed, sitting down on the couch and ushering for me to come over. I sat down beside him and sighed. "I know you don't want to get in trouble, but lyin' or wigglin' around the truth isn't gonna help any."
"Okay." I said, picking at the couch cushion and blinking hard. "Dally." I said quickly, and held my breath. It was eerily quiet for a second.
"Dally." Darry repeated quietly. "Winston?" I nodded. Suddenly, Darry shot up from the couch. "Dallas Winston? You were at the abandoned church with Dallas Winston?" He exclaimed. I nodded and shrunk into the couch. "Have you lost your damn mind? That boy is no good - especially for you. He should know better! I oughta-"
"Dar, please don't." I interrupted.
"What did you guys do up there?" He asked, crossing his arms. I looked up at him and sighed with a sheepish smile.. I could tell he knew exactly what I meant. His eyes grew wide and he sat back down beside me. "You know how many girls that boy's been with?"
"He's not like you think he is, Dar, I promise." I explained. "He's really sweet and-"
"No, Pris, you don't get it." Darry interrupted. "I don't want you to see him again."
"But, Darry!" I exclaimed, standing up. "I love him!"
"No you don't." He responded, shaking his head at me. "We'll talk about this tomorrow. Please just go to bed."
"But, Dar," I whined, but he just shook his head.
"Go, please." He said softly. I groaned and stomped into my room, but gently closed the door. I knew Darry hated slammed doors, and I didn't want to upset him more. Pony was sleeping in his twin-sized bed on the opposite side of the room from mine.
"Pris?" He said groggily, rolling over and looking at me through squinted eyes.
"Yeah?" I whispered, feeling my way around my room for my pajamas, which consisted of Soda's old DX t-shirt and a pair of panties.
"Where were you?" He asked, propping himself up on his elbows.
"Doesn't matter." I responded, crossing my arms. "Don't be nosy." He groaned and flipped me off, and I left my room to change in the bathroom. Usually I would get to change into my pajamas before Pony was in there, but since I wasn't home until late I didn't get to do that this time. I changed and brushed my teeth before heading back to Pony and I's bedroom. On the way, I peeked into the living room to see Darry sitting on the couch and blankly staring.
"Dar?" I said softly. He looked over at me as though I had startled him.
"Yeah, hon?" He replied. I walked over and sat down beside him.
"I'm sorry for gettin' home so late and not tellin' you about me and Dally. I was just scared about how you were gonna react." I apologized, and he wrapped his arm around me.
"I know you're sorry, but you need to tell me these things." He responded, kissing me on the top of my head.
"Are you mad at me?" I asked, shyly peeking up at him.
"I'm not exactly thrilled, but I ain't mad." He responded.
"Does that mean I'm not in trouble?" I asked with a smile, meeting his eyes. He chuckled.
"Absolutely not. You're gonna go back to school on Monday with a sore behind if I have anything to do with it." Darry said with a smirk. I blushed and scowled, but let him kiss the top of my head again. "Go on. You need to get to bed."
I sighed and stood up from the couch. I kissed him on the cheek before heading to my room. I passed out nearly the second my head hit the pillow.
