Chapter 5 - Meredith

"In the long run, there are no secrets. The universe will not cooperate in a cover-up."

"Good morning," he whispers. I feel his warm breath on my neck before he presses his lips against my shoulder, lingering there for a long time before finally releasing as I turn to face him.
"Good morning." He kisses my lips softly, caressing my face in his strong hands as he does so. "How did you sleep?"
"I slept okay," he sighs. "I always seem to sleep better with you beside me." I giggle as he presses his lips to mine once more before reluctantly rolling out of bed and walking into the bathroom, turning the shower on.
"If you're going to shower you have to be quick. I need you out of here before everyone else wakes up."
He pops his head out of the bathroom door with a sarcastic shocked expression on his face. "What? Are you embarrassed of me?" He asks with a fake offended tone, pulling his hand to his chest before grinning. "I'll try to hurry, but as you may know being quick isn't really my strong suit." He chuckles to himself as I roll my eyes at him.
"Just hurry up."

present

"Dr. Grey can I speak with you for a moment?" Before I can even look up there is a tight grip around my wrist, yanking me into the nearest unoccupied conference room.
"Arizona? Ow, let go!" I yank my hand from hers quickly, pulling my hand to my chest and rubbing around it. "You need to trim your fingernails."
"I have to tell you something before you figure it out from anyone else. Richard and I were going over the boys scans, you know, Cole Addams? You know, because we had to get new ones because the other ones were a couple months old and you know how a scan can change drastically within a few months-"
"Arizona! Will you just get to the point, please?" She seemed out of breath from talking so quickly, and took a deep breath before continuing.
"Well, we had seen that Addams cancer had spread to his spine. We talked to the family and they still said they wanted to schedule the surgery, so I had to ask Derek what he thought."

"Mer! Come on we're going to be late!" My heart drops. Why the hell are they up so early? "Meredith! Dr. Hahn's CABG surgery is today hurry up!" Oh, shit. I completely forgot about that.
I quickly run towards the door, holding the knob as it starts to turn in my hands. "One second! I'm still getting dressed!"
"Why's your shower still running?" Izzie asks, her hand finally letting go of the door handle.
"Oh, well I had heard you calling and I guess I had just forgotten to turn it off. I'm still running a little behind. Do you mind going ahead without me? I'll catch up."
"Okay," Izzie says hesitantly. "We'll try to save you a seat, but no promises. It starts in 20 minutes so be quick." I breath a sigh of relief as I hear her footsteps making her way down the stairs and out the front door. That was close.

present

"You what?" I yelled. I can't believe she would go to him knowing what I'd been through the last time around. She knew why I didn't want to see him.
"I had to, okay? He is the best chance we have to make this surgery a success and you know that. Bad history or not he is a damn good surgeon and quite honestly the best chance this little boy has at living or ever being able to walk again after this surgery. Now, will you please just hear me out? I have a plan on how to keep you being here a secret from him. Because believe me, the last thing I want is for you guys's history to get in the way of this case."
I sighed, defeated. I knew she was right. I just had a hard time admitting it. "Fine. Talk. But, be quick"
