AN: The one shot is based off of an idea I came up with about Skye and Ward. It's where he's not with Hydra (cries), but still has the whole tragic backstory anyway. So, take this after "The Well" (well, sorta).
And thank you to my dear friend Annabeth Marina Simmons McGee!!!! She made this awesome cover!!!!! Love it so much and miss you!!!!
Ward's POV
Regular Thursday for me. Well, as regular as a SHEILD agent's Thursday can be. FitzSimmons arguing and debating over sciency wibboly wobbly stuff I don't understand, May being all loner like in the cockpit, and Coulson, most likely, cleaning and polishing Lola. I sighed and tried to return to my book, The Rise of Nine. The series is great, but I'm unable to focus. I set the book down on the table and spread myself out on the couch, giving myself a time of attempted leisure. That is until Skye walked in. She was carrying her laptop and getting a whole bunch of alerts from her phone when she came over towards me, pushed my legs off half of the couch, and sat down putting her computer next to my book. Her words that she said to me came rushing back, "I'm here, if you want to talk."
Flashback
I sat on the floor with my head in my hands, barely able to hold the weight the memories had on me. FitzSimmons tried to help, along with May and Coulson, but I felt I needed to bear this alone. I hear the slight click of boots on the floor and the soft tap on my shoulder. I flinch slightly from the touch and look up. There was Skye with two glasses in her hands. She sat Indian style on the floor and handed me a glass. Skye took a long time staring at me with her intense eyes and I was about to tell her to go away when she scooted forward and embraced me in a hug. I hesitated, not sure what to do, especially when loudmouth was being so quiet and not trying to make a sassy remark about the whole thing. The hug itself was warm and friendly and I slowly leaned into the embrace. She stared me in the eyes and softly said, "I'm here, if you want to talk."
(Back to Present)
"Hey," she said, fiddling with her phone. I lifted myself into a more comfortable position, "hey." Skye set her phone down on top of her computer and stared at me with a certain gleam in her eyes. I made a decision. "Remember when you said you would want to... talk?" I hoped she didn't hear the slight crack in my voice when I said talk. Her facial expression was wide eyes and mouth hanging open, "hey rookie. Don't leave your mouth hanging open, you'll attract flies." Skye shut her mouth and gained her composure back. "Okay," she paused, "Where do you want to start?" I've never opened up to anybody before, so I didn't know where to begin. Then everything came spilling out, my older brother, my younger brother, school, Garrett, and all the ghostly memories that haunted me. The ghosts under my bed have chased the monsters out the door. Skye had a sympathetic look in her eyes, she leaned in and gave me a soft kiss. She sat back, "look at me. Everything is going to be okay. We'll carry this together." Still speechless from Skye's actions, I nodded my head yes. Cause together we can carry this.
