Skye's P.O.V

There are rare times with the team, that there will be a hard mission and we choose to celebrate afterwards. These times are what I honestly live for.

Coulson walked in with a vanilla cake and a can of whipped cream.   "What's that for?" Jemma perked up and stared at the sugared delight in his hands. Coulson smiled with a grin on his face, "I feel as if it is an appropriate time for a reward." He set the cake down on the table and started cutting it into pieces.  The whole team was there except for Ward which didn't seem to strange; he's always so introverted.

"Has anyone seen Ward?" Coulson stood up and looked around the room.  Fitz, with a mouth full of cake, replied, "well, he's obviously not here."  Coulson sighed, "yes, thank you Fitz."  Fitz went back to stuffing his face with cake as Coulson left the room to most likely look for Ward and I followed him out.  "Skye, check the training area. I'll check his room." I nodded and set off for the target.

Ward's P.O.V.

The screams of my past were all too loud today.  "Grant! Why? Help Me!" Voices from my past never stop screaming and yelling.  I threw another punch at the beaten down punching bag.  The poor sack of sand stood the beating from me as I received a mental beating from the past. They were always loud, but they never were like this. Every punch to make a bad memory back away.  The images were too clear and realistic, but that normally doesn't happen. Hearing my younger brother's terrified screams for help makes me regret everything that I did.

The doors slide open and in walks Skye.  The sight of another person eases the memories away for a moment, but still they stay in the back of my mind.  The punching bag takes another beating and Skye just stands in the back.  From her expressions, she doesn't realize I know that she's here.  Another kick and flying punch to the equipment.  I took a breath, "Skye."  She looks surprised and points at herself. I turn around and sigh, "yes, you.  I was obviously talking to the other Skye that is here." She scoffs and kicks at the ground out of nervousness.  "Coulson bought cake." Oh. He remembered.  "Do you want to come out and join us?" I didn't think he would actually do it. "I guess. Sure."

We walk out to where the team and an old friend wait for us.  "Clint?" I grinned at the sight of the archer. "Of course Ward! You really think I'd miss your birthday?!" The team minus Coulson gasped. Of course they didn't know, only Coulson knows, and that's because of S.H.I.E.L.D.  A chorus of "Happy Birthday!" rang around the room and Skye came up and gave me a kiss on the cheek. "Happy Birthday Robot." I mumbled a soft thank you back and looked at the cake on the table. Red Velvet. The voices in the back of my head faded into the background and I embraced my teammates's joy for this moment.

"See Ward?" I turned towards Skye, "even Robots can smile once and awhile."
