A/N Hey everyone, how are you? So I've basically been dead for the past few months, but I finally wanted to write something, so I wrote a two-part Malec one-shot in like an hour and wanted to publish it here. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Magnus sighed in relief as Max's eyes finally fluttered close. Magnus had been singing to his son for the last half an hour, willing him to go to sleep, and finally, he had.

Magnus, for the past week, had been thinking about Alec more and more: they had barely spent an evening together in the last few months, and though they lived together, slept on the same bed, mostly had breakfast together, Magnus still missed his boyfriend.

Alec seemed to have many more missions now, Magnus a lot more clients and any time together, they had to be weary of Max. They both loved their child above anything else, but Magnus, definitely, wouldn't mind a evening just to Alec and himself.

Magnus smiled a little sadly as he put Max down into his crib and padded into the living room, where Alec was home, but typing away on his laptop about his most recent mission. Magnus recalled, rather disappointedly, that they hadn't shared a proper kiss in at least two weeks. Magnus sat down and Alec gave him an apologetic look.

"Tough night today with Max?" Alec questioned.

"Just slightly, but he's asleep now," Magnus sighed and looked down at his feet.

"Is something wrong, love?" Alec asked softly and Magnus scolded himself to hold it together. This was just their life now. Nothing they could do about it. He gave Alec a bright smile.

"Not at all," Magnus lied, "Just tired."

"Let's go to bed then?" Alec suggested and then frowned as his laptop pinged, "For Raziel's sake."

"Too much to do?"

"It's unbelievable," Alec groaned, "You go up to bed, love, I'll be there soon."

"I'll stay," Magnus said firmly and he knew Alec noticed the tension in their conversation when he placed his laptop on the table even with the insane amount of work he had to do.

"What's wrong, Magnus?" Alec asked, and held out his hand. Magnus took it and realised there was a new scar on Alec's hand. It didn't seem that recent and that bothered Magnus; how long had it been since he'd held Alec's hand properly?

"Nothing," Magnus said again and before Alec could argue, he pressed his lips to Alec's. Magnus could tell Alec was not expecting the kiss and even if he was, he definitely wasn't expecting the intensity.

Magnus looped his hands around Alec's neck and pulled the Shadowhunter impossibly closer, hands tangling in Alec's raven curls as the Shadowhunter made a pleased noise, the sound music to Magnus' ears. Magnus lied back down on the sofa and Alec held himself above, eyes closed in pleasure, hair a mess and cheeks a beautiful red.

The warlock fumbled, located the hem of Alec's hoodie and yanked it over Alec's head then pulled Alec down again, kissing him and trying to hide the yearning that now spread through him. Magnus' fingers located the buttons on Alec's shirt, and through a haze, Magnus tried to undo them.

It proved to be a challenging task, especially when Alec was doing his very best to distract Magnus: kissing down his jaw and then neck, fingers barely touching and yet tracing out Magnus' half-closed eyes in detail.

Magnus then gave up and tore the shirt off Alec, revealing the torso Magnus pretty much knew like his own; every scar, the sculpted lines of his abs, the warm muscles and the way they responded as Magnus pressed a kiss behind Alec's ear.

Alec then clambered off Magnus and it took Magnus a moment to realise the weight was missing of his body. He opened his eyes and saw Alec shrugging his hoodie on.

"Alexander," Magnus called, "I - did I do something?"

Alec turned to him, surprised, "Except getting me all hot and bothered, which I will never complain about, no."

"Where are you going then? Or are you just putting your hoodie on for me to rip off again?"

Alec noticed the tense lines along Magnus' eyes and was more worried than he had been at the start of the evening. "I just thought I heard Max cry. I'll be right back."

Alec walked to Max's room and found that Max was indeed awake. He picked his son up, rocked him in his arms until Max fell asleep again and put him down on the cot again, before returning to the living room, where Magnus seemed to be deep in thought.

"Magnus, talk to me?" Alec asked as he sat down, shaking Magnus out of his reverie.

"Later?" Magnus asked and winked, "Finish what we started?"

"You're upset," Alec said simply, "And I want to know why before we um carry on with that."

"I'm not upset."

"Magnus, we've been together for five years. I know you."

"It's silly, Alexander." Magnus was avoiding eye contact, so Alec cupped the warlock's cheek, gave him the softest of kisses and gave him a reassuring smile.

"Nothing that's bothering you is silly. Tell me, love, please?"

"I miss you," Magnus said, "I know we spend quite a bit of time together, but just you and me, you know? I miss getting to kiss you at the end of the evening, I miss the nights spent awake just talking about nothing, I miss just watching an awful romcom together just so we can start making out in the middle of it, I miss having the unplanned evenings where we get carried away... I miss us.

I love Max more than life itself, but I love you as well, Alexander, and I just... I want to just have an evening that's just us. That's what's been bothering me. I kept feeling like we were becoming too separate. Not that we don't love each other, just becoming... I don't know... It felt like you and me rather than us even when we are together."

Alec took a moment before he spoke, "Magnus... that was not silly at all, Magnus, and I'm really sorry. I just... I never realised that, Magnus, because I was so distracted by all the missions. I'm sorry, Magnus, I really am. Maybe we can get Jace and Clary to watch the kids tomorrow? And we can spend the day together?"

"Sweetheart, don't apologise. You're just doing your job. And that would be lovely... But you have that important meeting tomorrow, don't you?"

"Oh damnit, I forgot," Alec cursed under his breath, "We'll figure something out, Magnus. Really soon. I promise. Let's go up to bed now, okay? I want to tuck you in."

Magnus smiled, nodded and stood up, offering a hand to Alec. Alec gripped Magnus' hand tightly and they headed to their master bedroom and Alec, as promised, made sure Magnus was comfortable and waited until the warlock fell asleep. Once Magnus was asleep, he went back to the living room, finished typing up his report, and fell asleep on the couch.
