Still Water

Jay woke abruptly around 6.30. "Hailey?" he called out. No reply. He thought he would've slept a couple more hours but nevertheless he hopped out of bed and went to get dressed. Jay headed to the kitchen to grab some breakfast before heading out the door. He hopped into his truck and grabbed his radio, tuning into the main police frequency. He overheard a few minor things, retail theft in progress across town, a recent carjacking in the west loop. Then he heard an important message come over the zone "Police assistance required at 320 W Wacker, we have a detective calling for help with a possible hit and run by the river. Any available units please report to the scene" dispatch announced. 320 West Wacker... Jay thought to himself. His heart stopped. Hailey always used to run through there before she stopped running. "5021 George, Dispatch what was the officer's name?" Jay spoke quickly into his radio while turning the key to his truck and reversing out of the parking lot in a hurry. "5021, It was Detective Upton 55055, shall I hold you down responding?" Dispatch replied. Jay was filled with panic, "Yes, yes hold me down I'm 5 blocks away" he said as he turned his lights and sirens on, speeding away toward Franklin St.

Jay arrived on scene at the same time as the fire department were rolling up and two other patrol cars were arriving. He jumped out of car and looked around there was nothing but still water, a smashed phone and coffee cup with Hailey's name on it. Jay watched as Squad 3 piled out of the truck with all their gear. Severide came to stand next to him. "She called in a car crash?" Kelly asked the detective. "Yeah..." Jay said confused. They both looked around when Tony started yelling "Lieutenant, over here!". Kelly and Jay ran over to where everyone was pointing. There was a red piece of ripped up clothing floating on the water. "That's hers, that's hers, Kelly that's hers" Jay was all over the place. Everything was a blur he barely noticed the fire fighters swarming around yelling to each other to suit up and get all these different tools. He saw most of them standing around with concerned looks on their faces not doing much. Jay ran over ready to jump over the brick to save her himself when Kelly stopped him. "Woah woah Jay we've got this, what are you doing?" Kelly said putting his arm out firmly to stop Jay from falling in as well. "What am I doing? Are you serious man? I'm going to save my wife because you guys aren't even doing anything!" he replied angrily. "Jay there's two car wrecks down there" "Two?" Jay asked totally confused and upset over the situation. He sat down in shock as a team of divers sunk into the water and out of sight.

Jay was sat head in hands, freaking out over what might happen to Hailey. He couldn't lose her now that he'd just got her back and they were finally solid again after everything that had happened, all the fighting and everything. There was now multiple ambulances on scene, the divers had found a woman and a baby, both DOA.

"JAY!" someone from Squad was trying to get his attention. He jumped up in a second and saw 2 divers and a fireman lifting Hailey's body out of the water onto a backboard and into the ambulance. Jay ran over as fast as he could yelling "HAILEY! Oh my god, Is she breathing?" he grabbed her hand "I'm here Hailey, I've got you". "She's not breathing, start compressions" he heard Brett say to Violet as they lifted her into the ambo. "What?" Jay said to Brett in total shock. "She's swallowed a lot of water, we need to get to Med right now" Brett said to him as he jumped in the ambo and she shut the doors, jumping in the driver's seat.

On the way to Med, Violet was continuously doing compressions trying to get Hailey to cough up the water from her lungs. Jay sat next to Hailey holding her hand whispering to her "Hailey please wake up, please breathe, I can't live without you, I can't lose you. I love you". All of a sudden Hailey coughed up a whole lot of water and gasped for air trying to sit up. Violet stepped back, making room for her to breathe. "J-Jay..." Hailey muttered barely conscious. "I've got you Hailey, I'm right here, It's ok we're nearly at Med just stay with me" Jay told her.
