The day has finally arrived.  The day of my class trip out of the country. We had been planning for a year now and is finally coming through. My mom was quite reluctant in sending me on an aeroplane without her supervision. Even with the constant verification that we would be watched at all time, my mom was still on edge.

I was up all night, shaking with jitters about finally visiting outside my country. My mom never wanted me to go and spend time with my family in other countries because she was too paranoid. But now I can go all by myself and take a look at colleges that I want to attend in said country.

Upon arrival at school, I saw everyone boarding the buses and the teachers putting away the baggage. It was only a 3-day trip but people seemed to have forgotten. My mom made me do one final check over to ensure I had all my necessities. I boarded the bus and sat beside my best friend. We did our usual greetings and got comfortable as the teacher started a movie on the television.

It took a while for us to reach the airport and even longer to board the airplane. After all the waiting and standing in line we finally boarded the plane and the lack of sleep got to me.  I took out my teddy bear pillow and placed it behind my head and went to sleep.

I was being shaken awake and it made me very upset. I opened my eyes and saw everyone panicking. “Attention all passengers, our left engine has overheated and explode. The plane is going down. The plane has begun falling. Please follow all instructions given by the air hostess.” Now I was panicking. The air hostess moved with quick intentions and gave simple instructions. I tried to stay calm but it was nearly impossible. I followed their instructions and took a look to the side; we were approaching the water with rapid speed and pieces of the plane kept ripping off.

I took a big gulp of air of air as we crashed into the water. I didn’t know how to swim and was trying to grab onto something to keep me afloat. I saw a piece of floor board rising to the surface and tried my best to wiggle towards it. By this time my lungs were burning from the lack of oxygen and my eyes from the salt. I reached the board and we breached the surface. I was so weak and tired from all the water. My eyes closed on its own and I passed out.

I woke on an island. I saw pieces of the air plane near my body. I looked around and saw no other human life nearby. I didn’t know what to do. I started shouting, hoping for someone to respond but I got no response. I looked at the sky and saw that it was getting dark. I was alone, scared and confused. I found a spot that looked comfortable and relaxed until I fell asleep.

When I woke my stomach was rumbling with hunger. I jumped to my feet and stretched, hearing the cracks of bones. I brushed off my pants and started my journey around the coast of the island. By the end of my search, I found some berries which were hopefully not poisonous. I didn’t have much outdoor experience. I was always in books coped up in my room. I had nothing else of importance to do, and education was a necessity in my family.

Most of my family were lawyers, surgeons and even lecturers. I wanted to become a forestry technician when I was younger but my family members all hated the idea. "The forest is all right as it is. Why don’t you become something more valuable to society,” they said. Overtime I started believing that the idea was stupid and gave up on it.

Now I wish I had taken some notes on how to survive in the wild instead of studying science to become a doctor. I made my way back to my piece of board to find a wolf sniffing around the area. It looked up and started growling at me. Now I was upset, I was hungry and I was angry. I started growling right back at it. It scrunched up its faced, looking quite offended. I fanned it away and sat on the board. I placed the berries on the side of the board and started examining them. I made two piles. One with the berries that I thought were edible and the other inedible. I placed few in my mouth and slowly started chewing.

I looked to see if the wolf had left but it stood nearby. It was watching as I place each berry in my mouth. When I picked up a berry it started running towards me. In shock I dropped it and put out my hands to shield myself. I peeked through the spaces of my hands and saw that it had sat down. I picked up the berry again and it growled.

I picked up another berry and it gave no reaction. I finished the berries and avoided to ones which made it growled. Next, I needed a fire. I started looking around for dried woods and twigs. When I felt satisfied, I placed them in a triangle formation and started looking for some stones to light it. All this happened with the wolf walking close behind me. I gathered many stones and placed them near the wood. I didn’t want to light it as yet because I still had few hours of daylight.

Then I went to the shore to look for an area filled with fishes. When I found it, I took up a stone from under the water and aimed it at the fish. I didn’t realize that they were so fast. I did this countless times and lost more than I gained. I think the wolf took pity on me and decided to catch some fish as well.

When I caught enough, I went back to my little spot and started smashing different stones together until the fire was eventually lit. I placed the fish on a stick and started roasting it. In the end it was a little burnt and lacked flavour but I forced it all down because it was all I had. The wolf laid near me, looking at me with those big eyes. Unconsciously I smiled at it. I gave him piece of my fish and finish eating.

It was now night time and I had nothing to do. I laid on my board and willed myself to sleep. It was easier to sleep when your body needed it than forcing it upon yourself. Most of the night I spent rolling around on the board trying to get comfortable. I eventually fell asleep.
