He brought me back to the house and I immediately went to my room. I couldn’t handle anymore of the conversation. I needed a minute to myself to breathe.
I laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling. There was nothing to do here. The boredom was driving me crazy but I really didn’t wanna go down there. Outside sounded a bit too lively for my liking.
The knocking of utensils and joyous laughter was very irritating. Why couldn’t I be happy too? Why am I upset? Why can’t I be grateful? I’m such a selfish human being. I should just
Knock knock
I sat up in the bed and looked at the closed door. Who could be knocking? I got up and opened the door to see Declan. He had two plates in his hand.
"Do you mind holding these for me while I get the drinks?" He didn’t give me a chance to answer as he placed the plates in my hand and ran off. I turned around and placed the plates on my bed before taking a seat. I swung my feet as I stared at the doorway waiting for his return.
The noise from downstairs was even louder now. I wanted nothing more than to close the door. Declan soon returned with two bottles in hand. He pushed up the door, not closing it but also not been wide opened. He looked at me as if asking if he can take a seat. I nod my head and he sat down on the bed. He handed me a fruit drink and kept a soda for himself. “I wasn’t sure what you liked but you can never go wrong with fruit juice.”
I smiled, “that’s true. It’s very nutritional.” He uncovered the plates revealing a simple lunch. I took one of the plates and placed it in my lap. I wasn’t feeling all that hungry but I didn’t want to reject his effort.
I took my time with eating. “So, what were you doing before I intruded?” I looked up at him.
“There isn’t much in here to do than to look up at the ceiling.” I pointed upwards.
We fell silent. Should I say something else? Should I ask a question? He asked me one so maybe I should ask him now? But I spoke last and what if
“We really should get you some entertainment in here. It’s just that we weren’t prepared for you. What do you like to do to pass the time?” What?Wasn’t prepared for me? It’s not like they knew that I was gonna fall from the sky and get washed ashore.
“Well, I like to read. It's what I was mostly given to do back at home. You know go to school, do school work, go home, read and prepare for bed.” I put away the rest of the food. I couldn’t eat anymore.
He eyed my plate then looked back at me. “Are you not going to eat the rest?”
“No. I’m not all that hungry.” I looked down at my feet.
Another awkward silence came about. It seemed he wanted to ask something.
“I see that you are very comfortable with Nicholas.”
“Please don’t imply what I think you are implying. He definitely not my type and I'm not looking for a relationship.”
I small smile came on his face. “I’m happy to hear that." He bit his lips before looking at me. "Do you like chess?”
“Chess?”
