•••There was a point in Mingi's life when he felt like a witness to himself, as if he were watching his entire existence happen from afar. He no longer had control over the course of his life. Everything he did was mechanical, uncalculated and pointless— or so he thought at the time. Coincidentally, the moment he hit that slump was the exact time when his life took a sudden drastic turn. That was when he met Yunho.
His first interaction with the boy had been very singular indeed. It took the form of a blow dealt to the back of Mingi's head by what he later found to be a crowbar. He was walking in the street back to his apartment when the hit came. The average sixteen year old would have died on the spot, but Mingi owed survival to a particularly thick and resilient skull. At the other end of the offending weapon was Yunho, already a dreadful outlaw.
Mingi was bound and gagged when he had come to. One of many positions to be in when meeting someone for the first time. He sat on a chair with his arms tied behind his back. Around him were the outlines of a cramped basement (that was all he could discern in the low lighting).
So he'd been abducted, was what he immediately figured out. The setting was so stereotypical he could have laughed.
His head was pounding, but with what little conscience he could gather, Mingi vaguely thought his wrists would bruise when he wrung himself free. Because he would. Nobody could tie him down like that— or so he thought at that time. That was the first of his rules broken by Yunho.
And there he stood, right in front of his dazed victim, in all his wretched glory: the man who would uproot Mingi right from the life he was so detached from and toss him into restless existence.
He looked like he was just a kid, Mingi thought. At that time, Yunho's hair flopped over his eyes because he couldn't be bothered to cut it. He dressed like a common thief, in all black with little ornementation.
Sixteen year old Mingi thought he could tackle this twig to the ground with ease when he broke free. The first step was getting himself free, then he would run and alert the police. Only then could he walk back to his apartment and catch the sleep he'd yearned for all day.
The kidnapper cut his thought process short however, and with the weirdest introduction Mingi had ever heard.
"My name is Yunho like "you know" but better," he started. "I'm either sixteen or seventeen depending on how Korean you are. Happy to serve."
The captive took a solid ten seconds to come up with an answer. His mind was still hazy from having been knocked out and abducted for seemingly no reason. "Serve what?"
"Your innards on a platter for my dog." Yunho had burst out laughing like he'd just told the naughtiest joke possible. "I'm kidding of course, I'm not crazy," he explained. "Plus I don't own a dog. I just want your social security number and bank account information."
So that was it: money! Of course it was.
Mingi was flabbergasted. "...You're seventeen? We're basically the same age. Where are your parents?!"
"Where are yours?"
"Excellent question."
The other's retort had been so quick it left Mingi at a loss for words. So he shut up, and Yunho resumed talking.
"You weren't supposed to survive that hit," he said, "but now I'm pretty damn glad you did! I usually don't have to kill people. I haven't done that a lot, yet. All I need to do is break into their houses and steal their info: I'm in and out! After that, what I break into is their actual bank account, if you get my drift, haha! So listen, I've tried searching that dirty ass apartment of yours for a whole day but goddamn is that place messy! I figured I'd better gank you to give myself more time to search, y'know, logistics."
