Kookie and I welcome in the new year with Yea, Song and Yeona. We have a splendid time and talk about how our lives have changed in just a week. Song and Yea will soon see her daughter and welcome their new grandchild. Yeona has meet a new man and accepted a new job. And Kookie and I have found each other. I cannot believe that he will soon be my husband. Insanity.
Kookie and I start our first day of the new year with some hot playful sex. Several hours later we realize that nourishment would be a good idea. Our Chef makes us a fabulously delicious lunch that we enjoy as we take in the amazing snowy mountain view. Alaska, while unexpected, is gorgeous and we will miss its beauty.
Following lunch, I call mom and dad in LA and I tell them about our engagement. Mom expresses her happiness for me, but I can hear the hesitancy in dad's voice. Something is wrong. Dad is always open and accepting. He congratulates me and Kookie, but I hear sadness and disappointment in his voice. Dad trusts me and he is always my biggest cheerleader. My heart drops a bit as we end our call.
After the call, Kookie leaves the room to get his laptop and clear away our lunch dishes.
I tell myself that dad doesn't know Kookie, and it will be okay, yet my heart hurts. After the call, mom calls me back without dad and tells me that my father in South Korea called her and dad and told them that Kookie was not a good person. Mom tells me she trusts me and to give dad time. Once he meets Kookie, she knows that he'll realize he's a good man.
"Tae-tae your dad loves you so much. Do you believe that?"
"Yes, mom I do. But Kookie is my special someone. I just know it."
"I know he is Tae-tae. I think your dad does too, but he's afraid that you'll be hurt again. You're his baby boy. Again, give him time."
"Okay, mom but I feel very sad right now."
"I know Tae-tae. You don't have to be alone in your sadness anymore. You have someone special to help carry that sadness with you. A partner. Do you understand Tae-tae?" I nod, wipe away a tear and thank her.
Kookie walks into the room as I try to conceal my upset with a false smile, and he sees right through it. Needy Tae is resting after a busy night of performance on his trampoline and is too tired to care.
"Tae what happened?" He rushes to my side. I lower my head and cover my face with my hands and softly sob.
"Tae, tell me what happened. I walked out of the room for ten minutes and you were laughing and talking with your mom and dad. Now you are upset." He lifts my chin and wipes away a tear with his thumb.

"Father called mom and dad and said terrible things about you Kookie! I don't like it! Why can't he just be happy for me and stop trying to control everything! He makes me so angry! Dad thinks you might hurt me." He encircles me in his warmth and I feel comforted and safe in his embrace.
