"I'm sorry that your father couldn't make it to your first day. He truly wanted to be here, but he got called into his agency for a hero emergency. He promised he'd make it up to you," you said.

"Whatever, Mom. It's not like I needed him here. I'm a teenager, not a baby," Tora said, crossing her arms over her chest.

The two of you had been parked out front of U.A. for a few minutes now. You couldn't tell if Tora was nervous or angry. She hadn't made a move to go inside, despite being adamant about going to school to be a hero. It was a big step for her. As your oldest daughter, she set an example for her younger brother, Katsuro. Maybe, she was concerned of her choices because of that.

You remembered being nervous on your first day too. You'd transferred in late in the year, and you hadn't exactly put your best foot forward. You had made a lot of mistakes, but you'd also experienced some of your greatest memories on U.A. school grounds. It's where you met your husband, Katsuki Bakugo, and developed a relationship with him. It's also where your career as a hero had started.

You didn't dare ask Tora how she was feeling about going to U.A.. She hated discussing her emotions. It was hard enough talking to her when she always felt actions spoke louder than words. She was the spitting image of her father, inside and out. She'd been quiet before leaving the house. She even sat still long enough for you to French braid her long ash-blond hair. She never let you do that. There was definitely something bothering her.

Tora sat straighter in her chair. She had yet to remove her seatbelt. She stared forward, hazel eyes unfocused. Her fingers clenched tightly around the fabric of her school uniform pants. She almost blew a hole through the house when you suggested a skirt. You didn't push it. If she wanted to wear pants, then she would wear pants. You made sure to contact U.A. to inform them of this, as normally the girls would wear skirts. They didn't argue with you, especially considering you and Bakugo were both alumni.

"You're going to do great," you said. You'd teared up about four times that morning. Your baby girl was going to U.A.. She was going to follow in the footsteps of her parents. It was enough for you to feel emotional.

Tora glanced at you, gulping dryly. "Thanks," she said in a small voice.

You held back a smile. It was rare that she'd say thank you for anything. You didn't want to anger her by reacting positively.

"Could we stay here for a little longer? I'm not ready to go in yet," she said.

"We can stay out here as long as you need to," you said calmly.

Tora nodded, looking ahead again. You wished that you could say something to ease her nerves. It would only make things worse though. Her father would have already kicked her out of the car, but you knew that was not what she needed right now.

In the rearview mirror, you caught sight of another car, dropping off a student. Kirishima's familiar red hair poked out of the driver-side window. He waved toward your car. Mina had leaned into the back of the car, and she hadn't noticed her husband wave at all. You lifted your hand subtly, hoping that Kirishima wouldn't get out and come up to say hello. Tora was in a fragile state right now, and it probably wouldn't be great if the bright and talkative Red Riot saddled up to the car.
