"Do I look okay in this?"
I stand in front of my vanity mirror, staring at the red floral print white dress that falls right above my knees. I then look down past my thighs, glancing at the white ruffled hem socks that cling onto my ankles tightly, making me look much more tan than I usually do as they poke out of my black Mary Jane shoes; the popular ones nearly every girl in town owns a pair of—with a subtle chunky heel beneath them that makes me just about an inch taller, if that.
My tired red-tinted eyes search for Rizzo's in the reflection behind me, before I spin around, looking at her with narrowed eyes and my brows knitted together as she glances me up and down with a smile plastered on her face.
"You don't look okay, you look hot, Maya. Like—Super hot." She speaks through a grin, and a soft laugh escapes my lips at her compliment which leaves me slightly flustered. "Can I add something though?" She replies with the words leaving her smirky red lips, and I nod my head as I turn back around, facing the mirror for the second time while she walks up behind me in a little black dress that hugs her curves perfectly.
I continue staring at my reflection, adjusting the straps to my dress on my shoulders while Riz grabs something off of my vanity. She then taps my shoulder, stepping between my body and the table with two small butterfly clips pinched between her sharp black nails. "These will match your dress." She says quietly under her breath as she places the red clips in my wavy hair, placing one on each side of my head so they're symmetrical. "And I think Harry will like 'em too." She adds on sweetly with a subtle wink.
"Thank you." I whisper through a soft smile as I feel Rizzo's nails suddenly travel through the tangled curls in my hair. I then flick my eyes down to the ground, avoiding her eyes as I swallow my nerves and paranoia that rushes through my brain like the smoke which filled my lungs only a few moments ago. "Seriously, I don't know what I'd do without you, Riz." I lift my head back up and speak in a normal tone as she rocks her head to the side, playfully rolling her brown eyes at me. "What?"
"Your beauty is infuriating, Maya." She replies in a dramatic sigh as she slides herself back out from between me and the desk. I narrow my eyes at her as she steps beside me, turning her body back toward the mirror as she rests her head against my shoulder. "Jagger's one lucky son of a bitch—Look."
"I love you." Is the only thing I can think to say in response to her compliment. And she quickly leans over and kisses my cheek, muttering an apology under her breath just a few seconds later as she takes the pad of her thumb and wipes off the remains of her lipstick she left on my warm skin. I giggle at the ticklish feeling of her cold hand on my cheek but quiet the sound of it as she places her finger under my chin when she's finished, urging my head up so I'm forced to see my reflection.
