More and more, I've been finding people making up their own rules for pronunciation and trying to explain them to me. Most are nonsensical, and I find to be taking 'sounding out your words' over the edge.
The most recent was while I was writing the word Scrabble, as in the game, and a friend popped her head over my shoulder. She then tried to explain to me that Scrabble only had one B, as it needed to have seven letters like the game.
If Scrabble only had one B, it would be pronounced scray-bel, rather than the way Hasbro intended for it to be.
It pains me to see that they don't teach these rules at an early age, ones which are being broken by people's logic on a daily basis.
