I. THE FAMILY NAME
you didn't think you'd ever understand the world of your mother.
"you haven't even done your tie properly," she sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose before starting to fix it. "how do you expect to leave the castle like this? i'm convinced you want everyone laughing at you."
"it's literally just a tie."
"the smallest of details count," she stated firmly, pulling her hands away as she finished. "alright. remember to smile and wave. you need to make sure they take you seriously."
"whatever."
"y/n, stay with sir kaeya," ei ordered.
"yes, ma'am. have fun in the city!" you smiled half-heartedly, waving as she and your brother left the open castle doors. the guards outside promptly hauled them shut once again, creating a loud bang that reverberated throughout the room. you sighed.
"don't look so down," kaeya said, nudging your arm with his shoulder. "i'll get you a drink if you want."
"you know i'm not old enough to drink," you rolled your eyes in a playful manner as you turned around, heading back to your bedroom. he followed beside you, resting his hand on the hilt of his sheathed sword.
"could still be fun, though," he smirked.
"i doubt it. i'm supposed to act as the princess i am, so that's what i'll do. besides, imagine if her majesty came back before i sobered up. what a nightmare..."
"i'm sure madam yae would gladly cover for you," he chuckled. "but alright. how do you plan on spending the day?"
"hm..." you hummed. "probably read. maybe spend time with the kitchen staff. i want to learn a thing or two about cooking."
"what a charitable princess you are."
"mhm, i try my best."
"p-princess!"
you halted at the sound of a familiar voice. from around the corner, sucrose came racing up to you, breathing heavily.
"sucrose! lord, what happened?" you asked, putting a hand on her shoulder. you looked down and noticed she was carrying a dress.
"i-i finished... the dress..." she took a deep breath and stood up properly. "my apologies for my rudeness! here's the dress her majesty asked for you. you can wear it tomorrow, if you'd like!"
"oh, i see..." you mumbled, gently taking the clothing from her arms. you observed it carefully. the primary color of the design was purple, and it was rather simple, but it'd do the job. "is she expecting me to wear this tomorrow? i'm confused."
"well, she said you should look presentable. i think she plans on revealing your appearance to the public... or perhaps she's considering it, so just in case... i-i think you should probably wear it," she stammered.
