I awoke with a start, my bangs plastered against my forehead, slicked with sweat.
I could still hear the music pounding downstairs, the windows were still dark. I felt my stomach churn and lurch, while my dry throat burned with every breath. So much for getting some sleep.
I surveyed my surroundings. The bed I was laying on was soft, plush, and a light beige, the room decorated in neutral modern decor and furniture.
I remembered I'd been carried here by a stranger and spun deeper into confusion. At least it was still night, I still had a chance of life if I got home soon.
I scrambled to find my phone in any of my pockets to no avail, and with a grunt, I finally decided to leave the bed and go searching for Su-Jin.
I burst out of the room, my head absolutely pounding, my vision a bit hazy. I wandered through the upstairs hallway, scouring the many doors for what I believed was the TV room.
I flung open the first door that seemed familiar.
A bedroom, empty.
I moved onto the next.
Office, empty.I started growing anxious, the second floor was too quiet, and I silently hoped Su-jin hadn't left the party without me.
I made it to the staircase, flinging open the door to my left.
I was met with a chorus of girlish screams, a pillow smacking me square in the face.
I stumbled backwards."Jisung!" I heard Chan's voice scold the boy. The screams were replaced with loud, breathless laughs; clearly they were very amused.
"We were at a really tense part in the movie, I thought she was a ghost! You know how unpredictable those things are?" Jisung whined, closer to the door than Chan.
I watched as Chan hurried over to me, still swaying in the hallway.
"You okay?" He looked at me with concerned eyes.
I nodded. "I just need my phone," my voice was much quieter than I wanted it to be.Chan took one of my hands, placing his free hand on my back, and slowly led me into the dark TV room.
Some stereotypical paranormal movie was blaring on the TV, Jisung desperately clutching an annoyed looking Minho.Everyone who was previously there was still sitting across the spacious room, and I smiled when I met eyes with Su-Jin.
"Glad you're here, Chae." She was slurring her words, and I silently cursed her for stripping me of my one ride home.Next to her were Hyunjin and Felix, Felix completely buried between Hyunjin's back and the couch cushions. Su-jin patted the space between her and the petrified pair of boys, and Chan gently nudged me forward.
Right as I went to sit down, a loud scream and a bang radiated from the TV. Screams filled the room again, Hyunjin reeling backwards and grasping Felix's flailing form.
"You are such babies!" I exclaimed, my head exploding with the sudden noise.
Felix lifted his head from the cushions.
"I told them I don't like scary movies! I told them! They didn't li-"He was cut off by his own scream as the movie's music swelled, a character was being dragged across the floor by an invisible antagonist.
I rolled my eyes at his annoying, yet adorable, antics, and leaned over to grab my discarded phone from the floor.
1:26am.
Holy fuck.
I quickly scooted over to Su-jin.
"You drank, right?"
She widened her eyes at me, suddenly looking apologetic.
"I totally forgot I was your only ride! I'm so sorry, I forgot you were here since you were in the other room and I-"
She was cut off by another explosion of Jisung and Felix's screams."You need a ride?"
I yelped at the sudden voice, their breath sweeping across the back of my neck.
I turned to see a hopeful Hyunjin, leaned far too close to me, only inches away. His eyes sparkled with the light of the TV, his long blonde hair perfectly framing his face. I felt the wave of blush this time, and I didn't fight to stop it.
Don't give him the chance, you can't risk getting any closer to him.
I glanced over to Chan, now seated on the other side of Minho.
"Channie, can you give me a ride?" I tried my hardest to look convincing, I knew I wouldn't survive being in a car with Hyunjin. The elder blushed, scratching the back of his head nervously.
"I don't actually have my license.." he trailed off, meeting my pleading gaze.
I looked to Minho and Jisung, begging them with my eyes."Me and Felix are spending the night here," Jisung spoke loudly from behind the pillow he was clutching. "Sorry."
Minho shrugged.
"I didn't drink, but I don't wanna drive this late," Minho held strong eye contact while he spoke, making me shiver slightly.
"I like my car too much to have it possibly hit by someone under the influence."
I gaped at him, only receiving a wink and his immediate ignorance of my existence.I looked back to Hyunjin, who had barely moved from his original spot, eyes tinted with slight annoyance now.
"Alright fine," I sighed, standing up angrily. My head swelled at the sudden movement, my body feeling light.
For the second time tonight, I felt arms firmly grasp around my waist right as my vision grew darker, and they pulled me into them.I looked up to see Hyunjin's grinning face, laughing.
"Just can't stop falling for me tonight, huh?""Boooooo!" I heard Minho's disapproval from across the room. I snickered as Hyunjin's face fell, glaring in his direction.
I took this opportunity to slip out of his arms, fast walking for the door.
"Thanks Chan, thanks Su-jin, nice meeting you all, see you at school on Monday, bye!" I hurriedly choked out, rushing to escape the room.I felt a hand grasp my wrist, my body immediately filling with dread.
"I've gotta get my keys, give me a damn minute," Hyunjin mumbled sarcastically, sauntering to a room at the end of the hall.
I stood awkwardly in the hallway, watching him disappear into what I assumed was his room. His blonde head poked out of the doorframe.
"I'll only take you home if you help me find them first," he said, his voice neutral."Oh my god," I said exasperatedly, trudging into his room.
When I entered the doorway, I felt the breeze of the door slamming behind me before I could process that he had slipped next to me to shut it.
I stared wide eyed at Hyunjin's face, expecting his usual smirk, to only be met with clearly nervous eyes."I want to talk real quick," he hurriedly said, nudging me towards the gray couch to the right of the door.
I whipped around to face him.
"What? No, no. I need to get home. Open the damn door."I smacked his hand off of my back, my blood boiling.
No way did this boy think he could force me into his room and then say he wants to talk. I'm not stupid, and I felt the heavy weight of disappointment settle in my stomach. What did he want?
"Just answer me real quick," he said, his voice hushed.
He suddenly went quiet, and he stared at me blankly.
Silence rang in my ears, and I tried to steady my breath.
"What?" I hissed, my heart racing in my chest."Would you at least try to let me be friends with you?"
