Song of the chapter: Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars
"When I see your face, there's not a thing that I would change. Cause you're amazing, just the way you are."

(Riven's point of view)

I feel like I had put things off for long enough now, I think even Trey was sick of having me around but I doubt he would ever say that to my face. All my lectures had ended hours ago and I had spent most of my afternoon at Treys house with members from our pack. Members not including my brother and his main three friends, God only knows what they are doing right now.

Trey had offered to drive and drop me home late afternoon and though I was seriously dodging my house, I knew it was the right thing to do to go back.

Though what I wasn't very prepared for what I was about to find at home...

"Hey, you want me to walk you in and chat with your parents to lighten the mood?", Trey suggests as soon as he pulls into the driveway, right outside my house.

"No you probably shouldn't, I need to learn to fight my own battles. Plus, I'm not sure my father's even home. Thanks anyway dude", I turn down his offer because honestly I'm not sure what he'll see if he enters my house.

World war three could be occurring again, who knows really?

"Who's car is that? Your dad didn't get another new car, did he?", Trey suddenly points out and I look ahead of us and see a black Mustang GT parked in the drive way of my house.

What the hell?

"Uh no, my dad is happy with the car he currently has. That's not his, but I feel like I have definitely seen that car before", I reply, while my eye brows start to furrow in confusion.

Where have I seen that sports car before?

"I'd better head inside and see what's happening and who's car that is. Thanks again for the ride", I say to him and he smiles.

"All good dude, anytime. Let me know what's up later, yeah?", Trey says before turning on his car.

"Yeah will do", I say, making my way up the stairs that lead to the front door of my house.

Cautiously I take my keys out and unlock the front door, before wandering in and kicking the shoes I had on into the basket found in the hallway.

"Riven?", I hear my mom call.

Before I knew it, she had made her way over to me and smothered me with her loving hugs and kisses.

"Where have you been? I feel like I have barely seen you for days. I missed you", she expresses, seeming a little bit stressed.

"Sorry ma, I've been spending a lot of time with Trey. I didn't mean to distance myself from you", I apologize, realizing now how not being at home much recently must've worried and affected my mother.

Well, I'm a selfish idiot.

"It's okay, your home now and that's all that matters to me", she smiles, while holding my face softly with one hand.

"Also, I spoke with your dad and we are all good now, I promise. I'm sorry if this week has been tough on you with our divided family", she said to me and for a moment, I felt at ease.

"That's alright mom, I'm just happy to hear that everything's good now."

I'm not sure how long the peace will last in this house but for now, I'm glad it's over. At least now I don't have to avoid my father, worried that I could spark another fight between us, that my mom would end up stepping in between again. It's a toxic cycle but there's nothing I can do to change that. Honestly, this mess is between my mother and father and I shouldn't involve myself more then I already have.
