"Pleeeeeease" begged Luz on her knees dramatically.

"No! And get up it's embarrassing," hissed Hunter as he tried to get away from the human as fast as possible.

She had been following him around the Boiling Isles all morning as he tried to do his usual patrol rounds. Since they had first met at his aunt’s house she had become way too comfortable around him for his liking. She often sought him out whenever she was in any trouble and needed him to clean it up. Hunter was an only child but whenever he spent time with Luz he couldn’t help but think that this is what it must be like to have an annoying younger sibling.

"Please I promise if you do this for me I'll never bother you again!" she pleaded running after him.

"That's what you always say and yet here you are," countered Hunter. This was not the first time she had caused a scene to get him to do something she wanted. The last time he listened to her he ended up lost in the woods for two days covered in frosting without any shoes. He was not going to be making that same mistake again.

“This time will be different,” they said in unison.

“Yeah, I’ve heard that one before,” scoffed Hunter as he continued walking.

“But this time it really will be different,” she said excitedly as she hurried to cut him off.

Hunter stopped and let out a long sigh “Ok fine let’s hear it, what do you want me to do?”

“Really?!” exclaimed Luz.

“I’m not agreeing to anything but I’ll listen,” said Hunter sounding exasperated. Maybe if he listened to her she would go away and he could get back to his work. “But make it quick.”

“Okay, Amity and I had made plans to go to the carnival this weekend but her mom said she can’t go unless her siblings went too. Ed got sick so only Em can go but she said she doesn't want to go unless other people are going because she knows we are going to ditch her. I told her she didn’t have to worry because I was inviting a friend. But I can’t ask Willow because she has some rough history with the Blight’s and Gus is busy. I need you. So PLEASE say you’ll come.” explained Luz almost too fast for Hunter to understand what she was saying.

“Ok to clarify, you want me to accompany Amity’s sister, who I’ve never met so that you can have your secret date with Amity?” he asked, sounding exasperated.

“Yes? Emira is the same age as you and she’s cool so I’m sure you guys would get along” responded Luz, sounding unsure. “And she knows about the date, she just didn’t want to be left alone.”

“When are you guys going?” he asked, sounding tired.

“Today?” she said bracing herself for his response.

“Okay, I’ll meet you at my aunt’s house after I finish my shift,” he noted.

“PLEASE I PROMISE…. wait did you say yes?” she asked, taken off guard.

“Yeah, it’s just going to the carnival with a stranger right? I can handle that,” he said hesitantly.

He knew how much Luz had been looking forward to this date with Amity. It would be their first official date. It was all Luz had been talking about for the past couple of weeks. The two had gone through a lot of trouble just to get Amity’s mom to agree to let her out though he was sure she didn't know it was for a date. Apparently, Amity’s siblings had also helped to make this happen. He wasn’t going to be the reason why they didn’t get to go.

“Oh thank you, thank you, thank you,” she said, giving him a quick bear hug. “Okay I’ll see you at the owl house and we’ll take off from there. We’ll meet Amity and Emira at the carnival!”
