Leaning back in my seat, I rest my chin in my hand as I manoeuvre the Wyvern down into Nevarro's atmosphere with the other. It's a grey, miserable looking planet, lined with glowing red cracks in its surface, and it comes accompanied with a bunch of unpleasant memories, including the face of my ex. Easing the engines off, I grin as the Wyvern's roar quietens to a purr as she sets down on the dried lava of the landing strip. Behind me, Mando stands, touching my shoulder reassuringly, steadying me.
When I stride down the cargo ramp, Greef and a woman with an ex Shock trooper tattoo on her arm are waiting for me, evidently having spotted and recognised the Wyvern. The woman is heavily armed, no doubt ready to attack at the slightest funny look from me. Keeping my hand hovering over the handle of my double bladed axe, I watch them with wary eyes as Din follows me down the ramp. A smirk graces my face as both Greef and the woman jump about a foot high, shock painted on both of their faces.
'Uh, Mando?' Greef says unsurely.
He grunts. 'This is my partner, Neth Tyvark. I'm sure you remember her, Greef. Cara, you haven't met her, if I'm not wrong.' The hint of amusement in his voice makes me grin widely as I remove my helmet and sweep them a bow.
'Wait, I thought this woman was supposed to be dangerous,' Cara says to Greef.
'She is,' Greef answers, eyes not leaving my face.
'So the partner of the guy who fostered a green devil baby is dangerous,' she scoffs.
Ignoring her, Greef narrows his eyes at Mando. 'Why did you bring her?' He demands suspiciously.
'Am I not allowed to choose who I work with?'
'But Omaf - '
I cut in, lazily twirling my axe in my fingers, smirking to myself when Cara's eyes bug out as the blades shoot out like the retractable claws of a loth cat. 'If my ex even shows his face I will gut him.'
'What do you have to say about your partner's... aggressive behaviour?' Asks Cara, grinning.
'She can stick Omaf Dangon's head on the gates of the city for all I care,' Din replies, and I can see Cara stifling a laugh for Greef's sake.
'Calm down, Greef, old man,' I soothe. 'Don't worry, I'm not here for him. Mando and I are only here to give you the quarry. The iktochi, am I right?'
'Y - yeah?' Greef stutters, still not quite over his shock.
Clicking a button on my vambrace, the hatch opens, floating the carbonite frozen iktochi down to ground level. Flashing a grin to Cara, I clap my hands together.
'Well, Mando and I will be off once Greef kindly recovers enough to give us our payment and finds us someone to fix our cooler, right?'
I can hear the laughter in Mando's voice as he speaks. 'Right, cyar'ika.'
In the end, Greef gets us our credits, we get our supplies, and there's no sign of Omaf. To be honest, he probably ran to hide as soon as he saw the Wyvern arrive, and now we sit in the gloriously cool cockpit. I turn to him.
'Do you want to go anywhere before I go to Coruscant for my next job?' I ask.
'No - Actually, yes.'
'Where?'
'Dagobah.'

I wake up in our shared bunk. Lying there for a moment, I take in the hum of the Wyvern's engines, the rhythmic sound of my breathing, trying to locate the reason I've been woken. It takes me a moment to realise that it's because of Mando. Quickly, I close my eyes so I don't see his face if he looks up. His arms are locked tightly around my waist, his breath coming out in panicked gasps, his face pressed into my neck.
'Hey, hey,' I soothe, knowing that he's had a nightmare - I myself have woken, fear shooting through me, but with no one to hold. Burying my fingers in his soft curls, I play with the silky strands, softly shushing him, pressing little kisses to his scalp. Something wet drips onto my collarbone. Maker, he's crying. 'Mando,' I whisper. 'It's okay. I'm here. You're safe. I've got you, cyare.' There's a pause, and then he mumbles something I don't quite compute. 'Say that again?' I ask.
'Din,' he chokes out between sobs. 'That's my name. Din. Din Djarin.'
'I - ' I press my lips together. It fits him so well, short and sweet. 'Din, it's okay.'
Eventually, he stops crying and just holds onto me, his hair brushing against my chin.
'Do you want to speak about it?' I ask softly.
'No,' he mumbles against the skin of my throat, sending vines of warmth shooting through my body.
'Din,' I mutter to myself, testing out his name on my tongue.
He sniffles, smiling. 'Now you can't call me tin can, Mando or Watchman.'
'Actually, I can call you all of those,' I tell him, smiling into the darkness. 'But I might change tin can to Din can.'
The laugh he lets out warms me through, slightly raspy but unbroken by the modulator. The sheets rustle as he moves.
'Are your eyes closed?' He asks.
'Yeah.' I feel his heartbeat speed up, pressed against my own as he hovers over me.
'C - can I kiss you?'
A wide grin spreads over my face. 'Hell yeah, Din.'
He chuckles and leans down until his breath flutters against my lips. I pout them exaggeratedly and he lets out a laugh and jabs me in the ribs, then silences my protests with his mouth. Involuntarily, I arch up, pressing my body against his, and a small breathless gasp leaves me as his tongue traces the seam of my lips, requesting access. I part them, running my fingers through his soft hair and tugging the curls at the nape of his neck, coaxing a groan from him. His tongue moves lazily against mine in thorough strokes, and I wonder how he learnt to kiss as a Child of the Watch because stars he is good at this -
Din pulls away for air, and I pant and ease him off me so I can scramble on top of him and nuzzle my face into his chest.
'Oh, cyar'ika,' he sighs. 'You treat me so well.'
'I could say the same to you,' I mumble, finding his hand under the blanket and interlacing our fingers. The last thing I feel before I fall back asleep is his lips in my hair.
