rubble...

the taste of iron in my mouth...

dirt and ash in my eyes...

that's all I really remember when I woke up outside.

There was one...then there were 3...A man and two kids, one about the same age as me, pink hair, powder blue eyes, and soft freckles plastered across her nose and cheeks. She was holding a blue haired little girl's hand. She looked almost, worried. They both did.

"who-...are you?" I asked as soon as I got the energy to speak. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to do anything relating to making my body move. From the looks of it, I must've fallen onto my back from a window. Who am I to guess that.. The memory is hazy.

The man leaned down next to me knowing the pain I was in, his voice was so gentle and kind to me, I knew, he was here to help. They all were.

"The name's Vander. No need to worry child, We're gonna take good care of you okay?" He said with the most gentle tone. He knew how much pain I was in. But he knew I was going to make it. If I didn't, well, I wouldn't be telling this story.

My breathing was hitched, wheezed like a broken dog toy. It hurt. like hell.

Vander looked over at the Pink haired girl and put a hand on her shoulder "Vi, could you treat any wounds she may have? I'm going to go in and look for her parents"

Vi...So that's her name. interesting- wait...my parents!

"h-hey! My parents! where are they? my sister?? Are they okay?" I blurted out at the man with worry in my tone. my ribs burned, so fucking much. Vi came over and grabbed a pillow she found from the rubble, must've been from my home, I recognized the familiar pattern. She knew it was dirty, but it was something to keep my head cushioned from any further head injuries.

"hey. try not to move...uh.." Vi said, looking down at me. Her expression seeming to be asking for my name.

"y/n..." I said gently to prevent any more struggle with my breathing, but I did smile to her a bit showing that I appreciated her help. She chuckled a little at me. "it's miraculous how you were able to survive a fall that far down and still smile through it."

I chuckled a little back at her with a sigh. "yea.. I don't even know how I'm alive either. I thought I was dead already before my ribs decided to do a little dance on my lungs"

Vi smiled gently down at me seeming amused with my humor. She had grabbed a cloth from her pocket to clean up my bloody mouth and nose. I guess that's why I was tasting so much iron.

The blue haired girl came over and sat down next to Vi clinging to her arm a bit. She seemed hesitant to talk with me.

Vi looked over at her and sighed "Powder it's okay.. She's harmless."

Powder looked at Vi, then back down at me. She still looked a bit hesitant to speak but she found a way out of the shell. "Hi.."

I couldn't help but smile at her and wave a bit "Hello. Powder right? that's a pretty name."

Powder smiled a little bit hugging her bunny plush. "Thanks."

I giggled a bit before I hitched in pain from the laughing "I-... should probably quit with the laughing"

Vi smiled softly down at me as she cleaned up the rest off the blood that dripped from my mouth.

I was tired.. I wanted to sleep off the pain in my body. My eyelids felt like they were getting heavier by the minute.

Vi pat at my cheek a bit "Hey! Y/N! Try not to sleep until we can get you treated okay?"

My eyes shot back open and I grunted from my pain getting worse. "I'm...very tired Vi.." I was starting to get loopy from the pain being so overwhelming. I tried to sit up, but strong hands kept me grounded on my pillow. "no. Wait until Vander gets back okay? When he gets back, we're taking you to get help." Said Vi with a stern tone.
