-Y/n's POV-

When we all got home empty handed, We sat on the couch and chairs, exhausted from the running and fighting. Mylo was still complaining and bitching like always. I had gone to my room to work on a blueprint on some weapons and distraction items to use next time we go out. I had on my goggles Claggor had gotten me for my birthday. He was always so thoughtful.

Vander came in "Everything alright?" He said eyeing us as he was walking down the stairs into the living room area.

Vi sighed "yea Vander, we're fine"

Mylo kicked his feet up onto the table seeming like Vander was buying the hidden truth "never better!"

Vander rose an eyebrow then sighed "good. Now- I suppose you don't know the rumor..explosion topside, 5 children fleeing the scene.. what the hell were you guys thinking?" He said in an almost disappointed tone.

Vi sighed trying to keep her patience together "that we could handle a real job.."

"A real job??" Vander said, his voice rising in volume little by little with how wreckless Vi was being

"We got our own tip, cleared the place, no one even saw!" Vi's patience was running short.

Y/n was bandaging up Powders scrapes and bruises she had on her legs and arms. She thought it was best to stay quiet and stay out of the argument. But she couldn't help but look at Vi and see the disappointment in her eyes on how the job went. After all, we did come back empty handed.

Vander grew angry "did you even stop to think what could've happened to you?? Huh?! To them?! To Y/n??"

Y/n looked at Vander, then back down. He was right. If I didn't know how to fight even a little, or even run as fast as I do now, me and Powder would've been beaten to a bloody pulp, or dead. But that wasn't Vi's fault. Y/n refused to think otherwise.

Vi's eyes widened a little at Vanders comments, she looked away. Seeming defeated.

Vander sighed pinching the space between his brows. "Where did you even get this tip?"

Powder sighed "we..heard it from Benzo's shop.." she admitted.

"From who?" He questioned immediately

"...little man" Powder said hoping he doesn't get in trouble. After all, he was her best friend.

"I took them there! If you're going to be mad at someone, be mad at me! But you're the one who said we gotta earn our place in this world!" Vi stood up from her chair, facing Vander, ready to take all the blame.

"And I told you time and time again that the Topside is OFF. LIMITS!" Vander said, seemimg like he's drawing a line that's not to be crossed. He knew Vi would try again, but he was willing to prevent that in any way he could.

"Yet the topside got so much more! And we're down here just scraping together coins they dropped! When did you get so comfortable living in someone else's shadow, huh?" Vi had blown the calmest fuse I've ever seen. She didn't yell about it, she kept her voice neutral, but she was serious, which shocked us all. Not only by how calm she was, but by what she said.

She's right. We're starving for weeks on end all the time. We're lucky if we even find a crumb of food to eat or even have enough change to get us food. I hated the Topsiders for that. We have nothing while they have plenty of food it eat. A table-full daily and much more on holidays while we have nothing..

"Everyone..out.. Y/n..you stay" Vander said in a calm tone. It signaled that he wasn't angry, but he understood what Vi said. He understood why she went up there in the first place. She wanted to get us something to buy food with.. so we all wouldn't go to bed hungry. I didn't know what he needed me for though.
