Rescue Me

Chapter 6: Juliet

With my car still at my work, because it wouldn't start the other day, I'm forced to walk with the triplets again. At least I am only working an 8 to 2 today.

I have already gotten the kids dressed and in the stroller and we're all heading out the door when I see Amos walking toward Blades car. When he hears my front door slam shut he lifts his head up to look.

I give him a polite wave as I'm walking to open the gate to my fence.

"Hey! Taking the little ones for a walk?" He says with a bright smile.

"Uh yeah something like that" I don't need him knowing I'm walking to work because I'm too poor to get someone to fix my car.

"Alright well you guys have a good morning" he says as he opens the car door and slides in. The engine roars and they speed off.

I glance down at the triplets to see each of them with a pacifier still in their mouths kicking their feet around in the stroller. Smiling at them even though they can't see me I begin walking.

Clearly the warm weather from yesterday didn't last with it being 55 degrees out today. I have the triplets all tucked up in jackets pants and boots and I even put a small blanket across them in the stroller.

As I'm passing Blairsville Gym I see Amos, Blade, Jameson and Braylon all standing next to Blades car talking while Blade is smoking a cigarette.

I pick up my pace a little bit in hopes they won't see me but of course the universe hates me and I hear "Is that Juliet?" I don't look up hoping I can make it past them before the other see me.

"Juliet!" I hear Amos yell. At this point I have no choice so I stop walking and look up at them with a small smile

"What are you doing all the way over here? We're like 3 miles from home" he gives me a confused look

"Yeah I know" is all I say hoping he drops it. But again the universe hates me.

"I thought you were just taking them for a walk?"

"Well I mean technically I am" please just drop it I silently pray

"What do you mean?" He gives me another confused look while the rest of the group is eyeing both of us

"Well I am walking to work so technically I am taking them on a walk" I laugh lightly to try to make it seem like not that big of a deal.

"Why are you walking to work? Where is your car?" Jesus Christ what's with all the questions

"It's at my work because it wouldn't start the other day so I just left it there and I've been walking. It's not that far and it's good exercise. But I have to go, nice to see you all" I say as I begin walking again to get out of this embarrassing conversation. I don't hear Amos say anything and I silently thank you universe.

By the time I get to work i feel like a popsicle and am very grateful we've made it inside where the heaters are going.

After clocking in and getting my cart I head to the first room and I'm pleasantly surprised that it's not a mess, meaning the only things I need to do are wipe everything down, change the bedding, restock the bathroom and vacuum. I'm hoping this means today will be a good day.

After my shift I clock out and head outside going out the back door to check that my car is still there. To my utter disbelief I see Amos, Jameson, Braylon and Blade under the hood of my car.

Rushing over to them I stop a few feet away "What are you doing?!" My first thought is they are trying to steal my car.

Jameson looks up at me and says "We're fixing it for you" with a bright smile.
