Everyone in the kingdom of Everglade was invited to attend the prince's ball, but the invitation was extended to all in the kingdom. Not all attendees were required to register with the Chief Official, but girls wishing to present themselves privately to the prince were required to register. Emmelina, Sabelina, and Cinderella did not register because marrying the prince was neither of their concerns. They already had a great prize by just being able to attend the royal ball.

Emmelina, Sabelina, and Cinderella decided to design their own dresses for the ball, so that the competition was more about their creativity not their choices. They did not want their mother to judge them in someone else's dress. They wanted to be judged in a dress they designed. While none of them knew how to make their own clothing, they could draw their ideas on paper and give them to the seamstress in town. Of course, all three girls had work to do every day, so they had to design their dresses in what free time they had.

Growing up, Emmelina had always liked the color scarlet and other reddish orange colors. Throughout the years of her life, she started to turn away from orange colors in favor of more reddish colors. Usually, she could be seen with lots of scarlet colored items and clothing. So, she decided that her ballgown would feature orange and scarlet color schemes. She had worn trial ballgowns at the seamstress's shop and even from a parlor on other side of the kingdom. She liked the way the large skirts looked on her, but she did not like the way the hoop skirts felt when she wore them. Emmelina's design followed her natural curves somewhat tightly, but allowed her enough room to move unhindered. It also laid straight down to her ankles, which she particularly loved.

As a girl, Sabelina was madly in love with strawberries and often had strawberry colored items with her, so she decided to design a pink dress. Sabelina also loved capes, and she would often tie a towel around her neck when she was little and pretend that was her cape. She wanted to look like one of the warrior princesses of old. These incredibly strong young women would march into battle in a simple yet beautiful dress with a cape that enlarged their silhouette and made them look more intimidating from a distance. The dress was covered with jeweled armor pieces. The armor pieces appeared to be made of jewels, but they were really made out of the strongest iron nuggets. She wanted her dress to be inspired by those warrior princesses, but she wanted to tone down the warrior-aspect of her inspiration and increase the princess-aspect. She decided to leave out the armor-like pieces of the dress in the place of floral decorations. Her skirt would not be as straight as Emmelina's, and it would wave outward at the bottom. To complete her look, Sabelina elected to wear a velvety red cape.

Cinderella's favorite colors growing up were blue and green, but she preferred lighter shades of those colors. For blue, she usually preferred a periwinkle or sky blue color. She has claimed that the lighter blue reminds her of William's eyes, which were a piercing blue color. For green, she preferred a minty green color. Cinderella claimed that the minty green reminds her of the color of her wall when she was a little girl. Unlike her sisters, Cinderella thought that hoop skirts were essential to wearing a breathtaking ballgown and looking stunning in it. Her design was much more lavish than her sisters. The skirt had a few riffles made to look like clouds going around her figure. A corset would be worn to sinch her waist in to create an even more distinctive curve on her torso. Finally, the dress would rest on a hoop skirt to increase her silhouette so she almost was twice as large as she was before she put it on.

Accessories were not very important to Emmelina or Sabelina. They both needed a pair of shoes to wear to the ball, but they already had gloves and jewelry at home that they could wear. Cinderella, however, had been grounded for a long time and was not allowed to have any play clothes or costume jewelry. So, she had to buy all of her accessories she might want to wear to the ball on her own.
